Position Summary

The University of Southern Indiana is accepting applications for Summer Enrichment Camp Supervisor.

The University of Southern Indiana is seeking a part-time Summer Enrichment Camp (SEC) Supervisor. SECamp takes place from June through July and includes crafts, games, and enrichment experiences for children in the categories of art, science, fitness, technology and more! The position of SEC Supervisor provides leadership to all camp staff in providing a quality, developmentally appropriate curriculum for each assigned child while maintaining a warm, secure environment for the children, staff, and parents. Preparation work for camp will begin from date of hire.

Duties/Responsibilities 

  • Essential Functions include but not limited to:
    • Collaborate with senior lead teacher to create weekly themes for summer camp.
    • Create and maintain forms used during summer camp.
    • Secure needed rooms, equipment, and facilities before camp starts.
    • Collaborate with faculty supervisor, senior lead teacher in choosing and securing summer events and field trips.
    • Collaborate with senior lead teacher to provide creative and age-appropriate child-centered activities for children. Report to faculty supervisor any issues or concerns that inhibit or prevent quality programming.
    • Create camp staff schedules and processing of all time sheets.
    • Provide day to day leadership of all camp activities and staff and consulting with faculty supervisor as needed.
    • Collaborate with senior lead teacher to review all campers’ “special needs list” and any staff or parent notes to ensure special needs are met (allergies, medical conditions, etc.).
    • Be sensitive to all children’s needs and maintain a nurturing atmosphere, treating all children and adults with respect.
    • Supervise and support all camp staff to maintain positive classroom management using appropriate, positive methods.
    • Supervise children by sight and/or sound at all times.
    • Plan and purchase snacks. Coordinate household duties to maintain a clean, safe environment, which is free from unsightly clutter.
    • Report cases of suspected child abuse or neglect to the supervisor and then to the appropriate agency.
    • Maintain knowledge of applicable University and camp policies and procedures.
    • Must respond appropriately during times of emergency, maintaining a calm demeanor and keeping children safe from harm.

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Associate degree or two years of training in an accredited college or university. Work experience or a combination of work experience and education in a closely related field may be substituted when it has provided equivalent preparation.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including a pleasant personality that encourages a cooperative work environment.
  • Effective listening, clear oral communication and strong written communication skills.
  • Effective leadership skills in the planning and supervision of lead teachers.

Preferred Knowledge and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood, Child Development, or Education.
