Professionalism: The student worker will interact with varying Gannon and Erie community members, requiring professional etiquette and customer service skills in support of a professional office reputation.
Technology: The student worker will be exposed to several pieces of software we use to run an efficient and modern office.
The Office of Global Support & Student Engagement (OGSSE) student employee will assist with a variety of office-related duties in support of the administrative needs of the department. The student employee will assist the OGSSE in planning and implementing social events, and with preparation of departmental publications. They will assist the OGSSE staff including the Director, Assistant Director, and Advisor with all other duties as assigned.
Essential Functions:
o To schedule appointments, answer phone calls, greet visitors and answer basic inquiries at the front desk.
o To assist with and at new student orientation, including preliminary preparations and checking-in of students.
o To provide peer guidance and support to new international students as they transition to Gannon University.
o To scan and file confidential international student documents utilizing Perceptive Content
software.
o To run errands/make deliveries and/or pick-ups from other campus departments;
o To assist the OGSSE in social programming including development, advertising and implementation.
o To support the development of the OGSSE newsletter; assist with photos, ideas, or submission of articles.
Required Qualifications
Cognitive: English language reading comprehension skills to understand written instructions, article research or other documentation related to job duties; mathematical skills to perform basic calculations; English language oral, listening, and written communication skills for routine exchange of information with supervisors, coworkers, other personnel, and international students who may be difficult to understand or have limited English proficiency; ability to carry out detailed written or oral instructions; compose brief correspondence; coordinate tasks; evaluate and make decisions regarding independent courses of action.
Technical: Skill in using computers to enter and retrieve data; ability to learn Perceptive Content functions and basic knowledge of Microsoft programs including Outlook, Word and Publisher; ability to type/word-process with speed and accuracy; operate office equipment including computer, scanner, copy machine, and telephone.
General: Must have dedication, patience, maturity and positive demeanor in fast-paced office environment; ability to meet deadlines; punctuality and commitment to maintaining established work hours; ability to enter hours worked in timely and efficient manner; must maintain regular communication with Assistant Director if unable to adhere to established work hours, and notify of an absence or necessary change in schedule; ability to maintain confidentiality when working with official student documents or issues discussed in the OGSSE.
Experience: Earned educational level equivalent to completion of secondary school education.

Work involves the ability to: occasionally lift carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects; stand or walk for brief periods; bend and stoop; finger dexterity; eye/hand coordination; ability to see small detail and within arms’ reach; hear person to person and telephonic conversation.

Homework is only to be worked on when all of your tasks are complete, and you have checked with a supervisor to see if there is anything further to do. You should not be talking on the phone or video chatting while working. If you need to meet with a professor/advisor during work hours, you will need to let us know in advance so that we can make sure the office is covered. We expect that you arrive on time and stay until the end of your shift.
