Intern responsibilities include: Team leader for up to twenty-five (25) Guest Services Representative summer staff members while under the direction of the Event Services management team. Duties include supervision of summer staff, scheduling staff for 3 rotating shifts (24/7 shifts) at 1-2 Residence Hall desks, training, and evaluation; summer staff contact in the areas of counseling, conflict resolution, crisis management, mediation, discipline, organization, advising, and social justice training. Lead staff in displaying professionalism and teaching them about great customer service, handling guest reservations, guest check-ins/check-outs, staff meetings and the decision-making process. You would also be directly responsible for the collection and accountability of all daily cash handling receipts, administration of daily front desk operation, and staff or guest problem solving. Additional duties would include assisting conferencing summer staff with questions they may have while on their shift of on-call duty for emergency problem solving within the Residential Halls and apartment areas after non-typical business hours of 5pm-8am.

Prior work experience in Housing, Event Services, Residence Life, Student Services, hotel or other hospitality/customer service position is required. Supervisory experience in one of these areas is a plus but not required.

To thrive in this role the intern would be a creative, positive team player with a pioneering spirit and true zest for work in a university summer hospitality program. You would be part of a bigger picture: You would be part of an intern group and the Event Services Department team. You would also have exposure to the office of Campus Services and the Department of Residence Life.

Minimum Qualifications:

Familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel programs. Retail experience is a bonus. Seeking candidates with experience (but not required) in working with Seattle Technologies Conference Programmer / IRIS Registration / IRIS Front Desk databases, Persona Key Systems, and/or Residence Life. May require a current valid Alaska driver's license, must meet UA safe driving requirements.

FERPA certification or certification completion within 30 days of the job start date.
Title IX certification or certification completion within 30 days of the job start date.
Behavior Based Safety (BBS) certification or certification completion within 30 days of the job start date.
Workplace Harassment Prevention certification or certification completion within 30 days of the job start date.
Protecting Payment Card Information training (annual training).

Position Details:

Salary: 20.47/hour

This is a pooled position, which means that the position remains open until a suitable candidates are identified.

Applicants must be available to work & complete the entire job assignment employment period in order to receive the discounted student housing benefit of shared, same gender apartment housing for the summer. The $2800 value of housing cost is discounted to $450 and is for the entire summer employment period including interim periods. To qualify for this benefit, applicant must also qualify for student summer housing with UAA and follow all Residence Life policies related to summer housing and campus living. If the position is vacated early, the entire housing costs may be evoked and fees assessed equal to the summer sessions (including interim periods) housing cost.
