The Office of Minority Affairs and Diversity (OMAD) Instructional Center provides academic support to underrepresented minorities, first-generation college, low-income, and other OMAD affiliated students.  Its mission is to promote academic achievement, retention, and successful graduation. The Instructional Center offers drop-in tutoring, academic workshops, review sessions, course packets and, professional and graduate school admissions preparation courses.  The areas in which the center provides support include accounting/economics, chemistry, computer science and engineering, math/stats, biology, physics, social sciences, and writing.

The Instructional Center currently has an opening for a statistics/ mathematics instructor. The instructor must be able to work with students on a one-on-one basis with assignments in precalculus, calculus, business math, advanced math courses, statistics, and introductory computer science courses (Java).  The instructor will also conduct weekly workshops and review sessions for statistics and calculus.

The statistics/math instructor needs to be flexible, able to adapt to different learning styles, academic backgrounds, and be familiar with the expectations of various academic disciplines. The instructor must be able to work evenings at least two days per week.
The Instructional Center provides academic support to underrepresented minorities, first-generation college, low-income, and other students affiliated with OMAD.  The instructor will work directly with students to improve problem-solving skills, study skills, and learning strategies that enhance academic performance.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Working with students on an individual basis in the math drop-in area of the Instructional Center.  The instructor must be able to help students with precalculus, calculus, business math, linear algebra, differential equations, and introductory economics courses.
• Assisting students with study skills or learning strategies that promote academic success.
• Conducting weekly workshops or review sessions for calculus.
• Developing curriculum and course material for workshops.
• Attend resource fairs and other outreach events as requested by the Director
• Working with OMAD academic counselors regarding the academic needs of students

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, or Economics and at least 3 years experience teaching college-level mathematics or statistics courses
• Demonstrated experience working with underrepresented minority, first-generation college or economically disadvantaged students
• Demonstrated experience working with diverse student populations in terms of culture, ethnic and national origin,  language, social-economic status, fluency in English, academic interests, and background.
• Must be able to work evenings at least 2 days/week.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

DESIRED EXPERIENCE

• Degree in math, statistics, economics or related area preferred
• Proficiency in R, Matlab, or Java is highly desired.
