Description

Study Abroad Coordinator, Smith International Center and Herbert College of Agriculture

The Smith Center for International Sustainable Agriculture and the Herbert College of Agriculture (Herbert) at the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture (UTIA) are seeking a full-time Study Abroad Coordinator to administer and grow student global engagement in agriculture, natural resources, and related disciplines.

The Smith Center was established in 2017 with a mission of empowering UT faculty, staff and students to be global change agents, who partner with others to develop and deploy sustainable solutions to the world’s complex, agriculture-related challenges. https://smithcenter.tennessee.edu/

Study abroad through Herbert College of Agriculture increased pre-COVID-19 from fewer than 10% of the graduating class in 2014 to more than 25% in 2023. Contributing to this increase has included new faculty-led programs, a revitalized International Agriculture and Natural Resources minor, and the university-wide Peace Corps Prep program. The Study Abroad Coordinator will build on that growth trajectory, developing student global champions, as part of a dynamic Smith Center team. This position will provide strategic leadership, vision, growth and management of a portfolio of student study abroad experiences (e.g. semester/year long, internships, faculty-led programs, first-year study abroad, etc.). The Coordinator will support and promote existing study abroad opportunities, and identify and expand appropriate new international academic exchange opportunities to continue Herbert student growth in completing study abroad and international experiential learning opportunities. In addition, the position will serve as an Herbert liaison to the university's Center for Global Engagement and work closely with the Smith Center team to coordinate study abroad opportunities in sync with the global engagement vision of the Smith Center, Herbert College of Agriculture, and the University of Tennessee.
