Job Description

The University of Nevada Reno is hiring for a Public Relations Manager. The position will handle all of Brushfire's social-media accounts and promotes all of Brushfire’s important deadlines and events. At bottom, this means that the PR Manager spreads the organization's story to the public and maintains a steady line of communication with Brushfire’s general audience, as well as with other UNR clubs and organizations that may want to collaborate with Brushfire. Occasionally, the PR Manager will answer emails on Brushfire’s behalf. The PR Manager must be familiar with social media (i.e. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) and should also be present for most (if not all) Brushfire events. The PR Manager should be creative in their attempts to connect Brushfire with the public. Thus, good communication skills—written and verbal—are essential. Because the PR Manager is largely responsible for communicating with Brushfire’s audience, the PR Manager will work closely with the Editor-in-Chief, other staff members and volunteers to ensure things like Facebook posts and promotion/outreach techniques properly represent Brushfire. In addition, the PR Manager will develop plans and strategies to increase Brushfire’s presence both online and on campus.  

Required Qualifications

Candidates must be students of the University of Nevada, Reno.

Maintain a 2.00 GPA and be enrolled in at least 15 credits. 

Effective communication skills, both oral and written.

Organizational skills.

Experience/knowledge with social media: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.

All staff members are required to attend weekly meetings in which progress updates, announcements and challenges will be discussed.

6-10 hours a week

The Brushfire Literature & Arts Journal is a student-run organization at UNR that publishes two journals per year (one per semester). All art reviewed and published by Brushfire is submitted through our website. With every new edition of the Brushfire, we strive to represent the diversity, originality, and dedication of our artistic community. As an ASUN organization, we also strive to be the  creative literary and visual work outlet for our student body at UNR. Our main priority is to connect with the various art communities at UNR and throughout Reno. However, anyone can submit to Brushfire. We receive and publish art from across the country. In order to achieve our goals, staff and volunteers also collaborate with other campus clubs and organizations, to promote Brushfire’s name and purpose, and to establish good relations with peer art organizations.
