Position Announcement

Utah Valley University is seeking a student employee to work as a UVU Math Camp Facilitator.


Summary of Responsibilities

Under the direction of the UVU Math Camp director, the math camp facilitator will be trained to work with incoming 4th through 7th grade students in a classroom setting. While serving as a positive role model, the math camp facilitator will interact with the students using discernment, follow-through, and good decision-making skills. The facilitator will be trained to address the needs of diverse learners and will work with students on a classroom basis to improve learning outcomes.
 
 The math camp facilitator will also be responsible for presenting information to students, helping them to complete group and individual projects during scheduled class times and during assemblies, and help students gain a greater appreciation for using math in their daily lives.
 
 The facilitators may assist the marketing director in passing out flyers, attending events in order to promote the camp, and visiting area elementary schools.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be a current UVU student. 
  • Attended full time at UVU Fall 2023 and Spring 2024.
  • Completed either "MAT 2010 - Math for Elementary Teachers I” or one completed MATH series (such as Abstract Algebra, Analysis, etc.) with at least a B+ average.

 Schedule for Summer 2024 Math Camp
  • Paid training (6/3/24 – 6/7/24)
  • 3 week-long camps, M-F (6/10/24 – 6/28/24)
    • Morning session (8:30 am – 12:30 pm)
    • Afternoon session (12:30 pm – 4:30 pm)

  • Ability to manage a classroom of 4th through 7th grade students.
  • Ability to clearly communicate content material and expectations to students.
  • Ability to effectively tutor 4th through 7th grade students.
  • Ability to use initiative, demonstrate dependability, and use time constructively.
  • Display interpersonal, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to deal effectively with a diversity of individuals.
  • Display enthusiasm for mathematics.
