Job Description

The College of Health Solutions is recruiting an engaged higher education professional to join us as a Student Support Specialist. This position will provide individualized support for CHS students and is located primarily at the Downtown Phoenix campus with a recurring commute to other campuses. This position is a key contributor to increasing student retention and graduation and will support students in making timely progress toward a degree through a range of in-person and online support strategies.

Salary Range

$42,016- $47,500 per year; DOE


Essential Duties

  • Work closely and collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff to ensure academic success.
  • Respond to student questions and concerns; work with students to resolve all issues to ensure ongoing satisfaction with their program and successful progress to completion.
  • Support and triage Salesforce, survey responses, and emails to ensure effective, timely engagement with students and other stakeholders.
  • May act as college/department liaison to current students, faculty, staff, and external groups on issues related to academic success.
  • Work collaboratively and collegially with academic units and services throughout the university to facilitate comprehensive student support.
  • Work under limited or minimal supervision, handle problems, and guide and advise students.
  • Connect students with academic and personal resources including, but not limited to, tutoring, counseling, and career services; provides follow-up to ensure satisfaction with and effectiveness of services.
  • Conduct various student and staff presentations as assigned.
  • Utilize various university data and programmatic direction to promote student academic success.
  • Instructs and supports CHS 101 courses as assigned by the Director of Student Engagement and Retention.
  • Attend and/or support Student Engagement events on all four Phoenix Metropolitan campuses as appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in field appropriate to area of assignment AND one year of administrative and appropriate program experience; OR, Five years of progressively responsible administrative and appropriate program experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.


Desired Qualifications

  • Experience working in academic advising for higher education, specifically with STEM or health degree-seeking students.
  • Experience offering a high level of customer service that prioritizes a student's success in their approach to academic advising and retention.
  • Experience working with undergraduate/graduate students and providing student success services.
  • Experience working with financial aid and/or scholarships.
  • Experience in rapidly adapting and effectively utilizing new technology, practices, policies, and methods.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications (i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Experience using ASU technology to facilitate advising including DARS, PeopleSoft, Retention Dashboard, Salesforce, eAdvisor and critical tracking tools.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of ASU's academic structure and organization; academic programs, colleges, and departments university-wide.

Working Environment

  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting.
  • Required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work.
  • Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential duties.
  • Use office equipment, i.e. printers, copiers, fax machines, telephones, calculator.
  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, may include/subject to resolution of conflicts.
  • Use of software/computer equipment for extended periods of time.
  • Use critical thinking to make decisions and/or analyze and report data/results of tests conducted.
  • Use an ASU or personal vehicle to travel to different campuses.
  • Ability to lift and transport 25 pounds.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing,  and pulling up to 25 pounds.

Flexible work options :
This position is eligible for Hybrid work.  This is an arrangement where employees spend a minimum of 60% of their regular workweek at their primary ASU work location.

Our programs are offered at ASU’s Downtown Phoenix, Tempe, Polytechnic, West and Lake Havasu campuses, as well as on Mayo Clinic’s campus in north Phoenix.
