JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Office of Professional Graduate Programs (PGP) in Penn State’s Smeal College of Business is seeking a highly motivated and experienced professional for the position of Student Success Specialist to assist our efforts in ensuring the academic and personal growth of our graduate students enrolled in our resident MBA and specialty master's programs.

 

The Student Success Specialist is responsible for helping to implement program strategies and initiatives aimed at enhancing the overall student experience and promoting academic success. This role involves collaborating with the Director of Student Success as well as faculty, staff, students, and academic departments to create a culture of student success and retention.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities Include:

 

Student Support Services: Assist with a comprehensive range of student support services including academic/personal advising, implementation of student academic recovery plans, and coaching to help students set and achieve their individual educational goals.

Student Engagement: Promote student engagement in extracurricular activities, health and wellness events, clubs, and organizations to enhance the overall student experience. This will also include helping develop and deliver similar events solely for Smeal PGP students. For example, special workshops for international students or for job hunting.

Orientation and Graduation: Assist with the development and delivery of student orientation and graduation programming. This includes collaborating with various University departments to ensure a smooth transition for new students, managing student aids at various events, and overseeing the span of operations on the day of these major events.

Student Success and Retention: Collaborate with the Director of Student Success on ways to improve student success and retention rates, including early intervention strategies for at-risk students. This includes aiding to identify and addressing barriers to student success, such as curriculum issues or course scheduling challenges. Work closely with the Business Career Center to support students in career exploration, internship opportunities, and job placement.

International Student Support: Understand and navigate policy and procedures for CPT and OPT. Ensure students meet ISSA’s academic requirements to maintain proper visa status.

Faculty Collaboration: Meet with faculty throughout the year to schedule courses/rooms, mediate student challenges, and aid with classroom management needs.

 

This position typically requires 3+ years of related experience plus a Master’s Degree or higher or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 3. Higher levels require additional experience. Prior experience of program management and/or supply chain educational support is desired. Knowledge of systems such as LionPath, Salesforce, GRADS, and Canvas preferred.

The pay range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$46,400.00 - $74,000.00
