Position Details

The College of Social Sciences, Mathematics, and Education (CSSME) at The University of Tampa invites applications for a Student Success Coordinator to assist the Dean’s Office in crafting and implementing student retention and success strategies across all departments in the College. The Student Success Coordinator will also provide academic advising services to a moderate caseload of students, assist in the administration of academic advising across the College, and serve as the CSSME liaison with the Academic Success Center, Academic Advising Office, and the Office of Academic Success Initiatives. 

Responsibilities
1.    Advise a caseload of no more than 150 undergraduate students, as assigned by the Dean. Duties include assisting students with course scheduling and registration, facilitating registration clearance, and collaborating with other offices to troubleshoot registration roadblocks.

2.    Provide auxiliary academic advising services to continuing students assigned to faculty advisors. Duties include holding walk-in advising hours during peak registration times in concert with the Academic Advising Office; facilitating group advising sessions; facilitating registration clearance; and processing grade forgiveness, major changes, and transient forms for continuing students.

3.    Design and implement a process to complete graduation checks for continuing students.

4.    Provide support for faculty advisors, including coordinating faculty training in collaboration with the Academic Success Center. Assist faculty in troubleshooting complex advising situations. Assist departments with the creation of digital advising modules for deployment in the University LMS.

5.    Collaborate with college administrators, faculty, and staff to develop, implement, and evaluate college-based student success programs and initiatives. Conduct ongoing outreach to students to publicize and recruit for student success programs in the College.

6.    Collaborate with the Office of Academic Success Initiatives on retention and completion campaigns, including stop-out and graduation outreach initiatives. 

7.    Utilize the University’s Student Success Management System for advising workflow and conducting outreach to students.

8.    Collaborate with Student Success Coordinators in other colleges.

9.    Communicate with students regarding program and curricular changes.

10.    Serve as the College liaison to the Academic Success Center and the professional advising team assigned to CSSME students. Maintain faculty advisor counts for the college and communicate advising updates to deans and department chairs.

11.    Other duties as assigned. 

12.    Contribute to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures and backgrounds.

Qualifications
1. Master's degree required.
2.  Previous experience in a post-secondary academic setting with experience in advising and knowledge of university curriculum, programs, polices, and procedures.
3.  Excellent interpersonal, oral, written communication, and computer skills (MS programs).
4.  Ability to maintain a positive and objective approach when confronted with difficult situations. 
5.  Strong customer service skills, along with the ability to effectively interact with a diverse group of students, faculty, administrators, and staff. 
6.  Strong organizational skills and ability to manage time, prioritize well, maintain confidentiality, and adhere to FERPA guidelines.
7.  Knowledge of or the ability to quickly learn The University of Tampa software programs such as Workday, Microsoft Office, Navigate.
8.  Willingness to embrace new technologies and innovative organizational practices.
9. Commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion with staff and students.
Preferred Qualifications
1.  2 or more years academic advising experience in a college or university setting.
2.  Experience working with special populations and limited access majors.
3.  Previous teaching experience.

Work Schedule

Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Summer:  Monday-Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.
