Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit

Classes provide rigorous and evidence-based content, and give students the opportunity to explore theory, learn intervention skills and engage in challenging dialogue with colleagues.
Position Summary
The School of Social Work (SSW) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seeks a dynamic candidate who is highly invested in student success to serve as a Student Success Coach and provide leadership in the area of student affairs for the online MSW program in our nationally ranked school.
The Student Success Coach will oversee student advising and manage projects with a student affairs focus. The Student Success Coach will address student needs and help students achieve their educational, personal, and professional goals.
The Student Success Coach will coordinate communication of curriculum requirements to students and design systems to track student communication, matriculation, and progress toward the MSW degree. The Student Success Coach will be the first and main point of contact for students in the online MSW program and will guide them through completion of their plans of study by providing curriculum advising and proactively working with students to coordinate resources and supports for them within and beyond the SSW. The Student Success Coach will develop holistic advising relationships through regular meetings with students while referring them to supports and resources as needed. In addition, the Student Success Coach will identify, address, and resolve complex issues related to student matriculation through collaboration with faculty, staff, administration, and offices across the SSW and UNC.
The Student Success Coach will oversee and facilitate programming and activities for online MSW students such as orientation, student wellness initiatives, and graduation. Further, the Student Success Coach will lead professional development activities, advise the online MSW student organization, identify and provide resources and supports for online MSW students, and serve on SSW and university committees as assigned.
The Student Success Coach will also play a key role in SSW recruitment and admissions efforts to meet enrollment goals for the online MSW program. They will promote the online MSW program and develop, plan, and implement recruitment and orientation events. The Student Success Coach will also serve on the MSW Admissions and Recruitment Committee and take part in the selection process of highly qualified applicants.
Finally, the Student Success Coach will complete additional special projects for Academic and Student Affairs as needed, such as assisting with outcome evaluations and assessments for students in the online MSW program.
This position will report to the Associate Dean for Student Affairs and will be part of the Academic and Student Affairs team as well as the online MSW program team. Due to the availability of students in the online MSW program, some evening and weekend hours will be required.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent educational or instructional activities associated with the delivery and/or management of student support functions, will accept a relevant Bachelor’s degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and at least 1 year of relevant experience in substitution.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
* Master’s degree in social work
* Knowledge of the range of social work practice areas including macro practice (community, management, and policy practice) as well as direct practice (individuals, families, and groups)
* Experience in an academic setting providing academic support and/or student development assistance to students
* Experience working with diverse student populations
* Demonstrated ability to make sound judgment in dealing with administrative or student issues

Campus Security Authority Responsibilities

This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
