Job Summary/Basic Function:

The School for the Digital Future (SDF) Senior Student Success Advisor is an essential on-campus point of contact for interested, admitted, and enrolled students in the hybrid Digital Innovation and Design (DI+D) program, the in-person Interdisciplinary Studies (IDS; also known as 3D) degree, and other SDF programs. Also partners with staff from the Enrollment and Student Success team in Extended Studies, the COAS Academic Advising and Student Services teams, other student support offices at Boise State, and relevant academic departments to create a cohesive, transparent experience for hybrid and in-person students in the School for the Digital Future from the time of inquiry to graduation.

Level Scope:

Recognized subject matter expert who knows how to apply theory and put it into practice with in-depth understanding of the professional field with limited oversight from managers. Independently performs the full range of responsibilities within the function; requires deep job knowledge of area typically obtained through higher education combined with experience. Manages large projects or processes and problems faced are difficult and often complex; analyzes problems/issues of diverse scope and determines solutions. May manage programs that include formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and resources; functions with a high degree of autonomy. Influences others regarding policies, practices and procedures.

Essential Functions:

60% of Time the Student Success Advisor, Senior must:

  • Provide academic advising and support services for students enrolled in the DI+D hybrid degree, IDS, and other School-specific programs.
  • Successfully onboard admitted students prior to the start of the first semester in these programs. Onboarding includes an orientation to Boise State and the academic program, selecting classes, registration, textbook ordering, and preparing for class start-up.
  • Assist students in developing educational plans aligned with their needs, interests and goals.
  • Provide pre-enrollment advising to students considering full-time and part-time options.
  • Partner with the academic program leadership, faculty and career advisors to provide professional/career planning.
  • Track program students, including the collection of relevant enrollment data, degree plan, advising notes, degree progression, benchmarks for completion and graduation.
  • Coach students through academic difficulties, developing a growth mindset and improving academic beliefs and behaviors to achieve success.
  • Interpret academic policy, rules and regulations of hybrid DI+D and IDS and the university as needed. Problem-solving a variety of student related issues that will involve interpreting policies and procedures, fact-finding, communicating with field experts, creating options, and deciding final action.
  • Work closely with the academic program leadership, faculty and staff to provide team-coordinated support and advising for students.
  • Support the enrollment, retention and graduation goals of the programs, School for the Digital Future, affected colleges, and the University.
  • Be a functional expert for student services information related to admission, registration, application to candidacy, academic adjustments, academic appeals, application for graduation, graduation, credit transfer, degree requirements, academic success/support, tutoring, financial aid, fee payment, course materials/tests, counseling services and community resources. Coordinate relationships with service specialists as needed. Document and train others as needed.
  • Lead efforts to create a unified, intentional communication plan for enrolled and stop-out students.
  • Encourage student feedback regarding overall program experience and utilize feedback for continued service, process and program improvement.
  • Be fully informed of Boise State admission policies and procedures, understand common admission challenges/nuances and clearly communicate the intricacies of processes to prospective students and/or Student Success teams.

35% of Time the Student Success Advisor, Senior

  • Assist with on campus community-building activities and student-led organizations for the School for the Digital Future to help students grow their networks and create meaningful connections and relationships with each other and our team.
  • Recruit prospective students and manage all prospective student communication using prescribed communication plans or developing customized plans depending on the student needs and recruitment cycle.
  • Coordinate with Admissions and the Extend Studies Enrollment and Student Success teams to organize and attend program- or School-specific outreach and recruitment events on campus, at CWI, locally, and occasionally regionally.
  • Help students navigate complex university systems, including university admissions, financial aid, on campus and online education options, and academic advising and policies pertaining to special populations including, but not limited to transfer, adult learners, military students, veterans, GED high school graduates, international students, and students that are reengaging with Boise State.
  • Make data-driven decisions to adjust recruitment strategies based on target student populations, recruitment metrics, and university processes in a dynamic way that meets the needs of students and stakeholders (program partners, admissions, registrar, financial aid, marketing).
  • Engage in intentional and continuous efforts to improve service to and coaching of students, which includes improving internal processes, procedures, resources and published content.

5% of Time the Student Success Advisor, Senior

  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Communicate with stakeholders and staff at a distance (phone, email, virtual conferences) and in person.
  • Utilize organization, communication and time management skills.
  • Preserve confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Be detail-oriented with a high level of energy, integrity and enthusiasm.
  • Be sensitive to the concerns and needs of diverse student populations.
Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s or Advanced Degree and 5 years of professional experience or equivalent relevant experience.

Salary and Benefits:

$57,200 - $62,000 depending on experience.
