Student Services Manager, English Language Center - School of Continuing Studies - Georgetown University

Job Overview

The Student Services Manager in the English Language Center (ELC) supports academic program operations and international student programming and advising in the ELC. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Serve as primary point of contact for international students at ELC and provides resources to students – both pre-departure and at orientation upon arrival
  • Plan, promote, and participate in cultural activities with enrolled students, including producing weekly newsletters and social media promotions
  • Serve as the department liaison to student life resources, such as the housing office, student health insurance, academic resource centers
  • Coordinate academic program operations to ensure the successful operation of ELC programs
  • Provide administrative support to other teams within the noncredit, non-degree space as requested by the Associate Dean, Executive and Language Education

Work Interactions and Work Mode Designation

Reporting directly to the Associate Director, Intensive English Program, the Student Services Manager interacts internally with:

  • Onboarding (pre-arrival) and current students
  • Alumni
  • Faculty
  • Other key stakeholders in ELC and SCS

They interact with various offices outside of SCS, including but not limited to:

  • Student Health Insurance
  • Office of Revenue and Receivables (Student Accounts)
  • Office of Global Services

They interact with various external stakeholders:

  • Embassies and other third party sponsors
  • Housing representatives

They join all SCS employees in required support of Tropaia and Commencement.

This position has been designated as Hybrid. Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 1 year of relevant experience [note: consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of education and work experience]
  • Experience with student event planning, cultural experiences, tours
  • Demonstrated use in the application of technology in the workplace - e.g. , Microsoft Office, Google suite - as well social media and marketing/communication programs, e.g., Canva, MailChimp, Hootsuite, Marketo
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Strong customer service orientation to students and student success initiatives
  • Demonstrated intercultural competence and communication and have experience working with international students

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3 years of continuous experience - preferably in higher education, English language programs or other related educational/nonprofit environment in support of educational programming for young adults
  • Experience working, studying or living abroad.
  • Experience working with and advising students on a F visa
