CRIMINAL JUSTICE (BL-CRIM-IUBLA)

The Department of Criminal Justice supports an interdisciplinary field drawing on the social sciences, legal studies, and the humanities. Our faculty and staff support robust undergraduate, 4 + 1 Pathway (AMP), and Ph.D. programs. Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Serves both the Criminal Justice and Philosophy departments
  • Supports the graduate programs and 4 + 1 Pathway (AMP) of both departments and works closely with the Directors of Graduate Studies, 4 + 1 Coordinators, other faculty administrators, and the Program Managers of both departments
  • Maintains program guidebooks and tracking documents
  • Provides guidance to students and faculty regarding policies and procedures for all departmental graduate programs and 4 + 1 Pathway (AMP)
  • Meets with students each semester to discuss progress towards degree and grant permissions for semester registration
  • Screens student concerns, and as appropriate, refers them to the DGS, 4 + 1 Coordinator, and other faculty
  • Assists students with funding options and support, including fellowships and awards
  • Serves as admissions coordinator for the graduate programs
  • Serves as a resource to graduate students concerning career development and visa issues
  • Provides logistical support for qualifying exams, dissertation proposal defense, and dissertation defense
  • Collaborates with students on eDoc submission and support
  • Coordinates events for the Ph.D. programs and 4 + 1 Pathway (AMP) with department administrative input
  • Gathers program documentation and data as requested for surveys and reports
  • Maintains alumni records
  • Maintains training and skills relevant to graduate program administration
  • Maintains up-to-date documentation of responsibilities, including timelines and details for completion
  • Manages the graduate program email account
  • Contributes content for the graduate portion of the department website and department bulletin boards
  • Ensures accuracy
  • Coordinates departmental prize and fellowship competitions
  • Processes Student Academic Appointment hiring

General Responsibilities

  • Assists with administrative needs related to the daily operations, planning, and implementation of various or multiple student services initiatives
  • Attends to front desk
  • Answers phone and email
  • Delivers messages and mail
  • Serves as a liaison to campus partners for cross-departmental student services initiatives, providing information, securing space reservations, scheduling planning meetings, and providing necessary documentation
  • Provides assistance to student participants, stakeholders, faculty, and/or staff; acts as a resource by analyzing information, providing documentation, and preparing reports
  • Accurately maintains electronic records and databases
  • Provides directions, support, and information to student organization representatives and other visitors to the department
  • Assists with daily scheduling, training, and gathering of student feedback
  • May prepare and disseminate handouts, presentations, or other materials
  • May assist with ordering or creation of promotional materials for student organizations or departmental needs
  • May provide guidance to other Student Services Coordinators

Combinations of related education and experience may be considered. Education beyond the minimum required may be substituted for work experience. Work experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted for education. 

 

EDUCATION

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED)

Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

  • 2 years of experience in office environment, higher education, or related field

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

$38,000 - $40,500 per year
