Job Description

Reporting to the Associate Director for Academic Services, the Student Services Coordinator Associate provides oversight to front line services provided to the faculty, staff, and students taking courses through the School of Mathematical & Statistical Sciences. Focused on quality standards and customer services, this position promotes the mission of the School of Mathematical & Statistical Sciences.

Essential Duties

  • Provides supervision and training for student workers, and serves as department time administrator
  • Coordinates hiring of Instructional Assistants, graders, and other student worker positions within the school
  • Maintains student records on computer-based databases
  • Oversees front desk operations, including mail distribution, supply management and distribution, test copy requests, and front desk service and support to faculty, staff and students
  • Works with ALEKS math placement test support to provide consistent service
  • Oversees undergraduate Salesforce case responses with student worker teams
  • Serves as main point of contact for departmental questions
  • Reviews and updates front desk training manuals
  • Maintains records of course syllabi for each semester
  • Other administrative duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in field appropriate to area of assignment AND two years of administrative and appropriate program experience; OR, six years of progressively responsible administrative and appropriate program experience; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Working Environment

Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work. Occasional bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds. Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts. Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions.


Department Statement

The School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences (SoMSS) at ASU is currently home to about 60 tenured or tenure-track faculty members, 60 instructional faculty, 5 postdoctoral associates, 190 graduate students, 1,200 undergraduate student majors, and 20 staff members. The School teaches courses to over 20,000 undergraduate students each academic year.  SoMSS recently started a new undergraduate degree program in data science. The School also offers bachelors, masters, and doctoral programs in applied mathematics, mathematics, statistics, and mathematics education, as well as undergraduate and masters programs in actuarial science. SoMSS has a strong interdisciplinary research profile that includes numerous collaborations inside and outside the university, such as in the biological, environmental, medical, physical and social sciences, education, and multiple areas of engineering.
