Position Announcement

Utah Valley University is seeking a Student Services Assistant! The Student Services Assistant will assist students and parents regarding the financial aid process and provides information on available programs, procedures, and eligibility requirements. Review financial aid applications and related documentation for compliance with eligibility requirements. Provide assistance to students and parents in the completion of financial aid applications. Must be able to obtain access to Federal Government databases pertaining to federal student aid.


Summary of Responsibilities

  • Counsel students and parents concerning federal, state, and institutional financial aid.
  • Examine applicant documentation verifying information to ensure validity and accuracy.
  • Research and resolve questions about application process and processing problems.
  • Inform students, parents, and others regarding the eligibility for and availability of federal, state, institutional, and other relevant aid programs.
  • Utilize and update a database which includes processing and verifying applicants for financial aid received from students.
  • Research information of federal and state regulations governing the administration of sponsored financial programs.
  • Research federal, state, and institutional financing changes affecting education funding.
  • Process scanning and indexing of all paperwork for financial aid. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited institution with an associate’s degree plus 2 years of experience; or a bachelor’s degree; or any combination of education and experience totaling four years.
Preferred Qualifications:    
Knowledge of the Banner database system is highly preferred.


Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities

Knowledge    

  • Knowledge of federal regulations pertaining to financial aid, including need analysis, eligibility and assessment, and packaging strategies.
  • Knowledge of automated financial aid management systems (knowledge of the Banner database system is highly preferred).
  • Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures.
Skills    
  • Skills in interpersonal communication, problem-solving, and decision-making.
  • Skills in making presentations and training others.
Abilities    
  • Ability to work independently and organize a heavy workload.
  • Ability to operate office equipment, computers, and software.
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems in an effective and professional manner.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of individuals to meet their needs.
  • Must be able to obtain access to Federal Government databases pertaining to federal student aid.
