Job Summary

The Student Services Advisor (SSA) will serve a key role in the unit regarding services and events for nursing students. The SSA will report to the Director of Student Affairs, but also work closely with School of Nursing faculty, the Office of Academic Programs and Student Funding Staff and Manager. This individual will coordinate and provide application and selection support for Master’s and Post-Master’s programs in School of Nursing, counsel and advise applicants through the admissions process, as well as advise accepted students through matriculation, graduation requirements, and post-graduation licensure. This position will contribute to planning special events, including New Student Orientations and Commencement.

In addition, the SSA will prepare surveys and reports pertaining to admissions and progression materials for matriculating students in all programs. The SSA will implement basic principles and concepts pertaining to School and University policies and procedures and will be expected to exercise professional judgment and/or academic expertise in their interpretation. The SSA will have daily contact with other offices on campus, such as the Registrar, Graduate Division, Financial Aid, Housing, and Student Life.

The School of Nursing (SON), Office of Student Affairs, provides centralized administrative and student services support for four academic programs in School of Nursing. The programs offered by the School of Nursing are a PhD program, a Master’s program, a Masters Entry Program in Nursing (MEPN) and a Post-Master’s program. Student Affairs is responsible for all admissions, academic records, progression, curriculum coordination, career services, technical services and other student support programs & services.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Minimum one+ years of related experience in student affairs, higher education (College/University) administration or administrative analysis
• Ability to demonstrate computer skills with proficiency in standard office software including word processing, databases, presentation, graphics, and calendars
• Ability to demonstrate verbal and written communication skills; strong writing skills to prepare reports and other communications
• Proven analytical, interpersonal, planning, organizational and problem-solving skills; detail oriented, flexibility to meet the demands of multiple constituencies, able to handle sensitive issues in a confidential, professional manner
• Ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines; outstanding ability to prioritize competing demands effectively; ability to manage multiple requests and implement several projects simultaneously while managing various priorities
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment and to interact with a variety of individuals in a professional and efficient manner; ability to interact effectively with diverse groups including students, faculty, external agencies and the public
• Demonstrated sensitivity to working with a diverse student population

Preferred Qualifications

• Three years of related experience in student affairs, higher education (College/University) administration or administrative analysis
• Knowledge of University processes and procedures
• Understanding of University rules and regulations
