Position Summary Information


Job Description Summary
The Student Research Assistant will work with PI Sehyr and her team on a project that examines the reading and spelling patterns in deaf signers of American Sign Language. The goal of the project is to characterize the nature of orthographic representations and reading abilities. The student will assist with coding and analyzing basic experiments and performing analyses of anonymized datasets to answer linguistically driven research questions about the relationship among congenital deafness, reading and sign language knowledge.
Responsibilities
1. Assisting with analyses and interpretation of data 2. Assisting with writing up the results and preparing materials for conference presentations or publications. 3. Assisting the PI with preparing project presentations and project reports at team meetings. 4. Attending regular lab meetings in person and team meetings online. 5. Diligent and timely record keeping, following lab protocols and documenting procedures6. Participating in student research symposia or conferences.
Required Qualifications
1. Computer competency including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint. 2. Excellent spoken and written communication skills. 3. Ability to describe activity outcomes to team members in a clear and concise manner. 4. Ability to think critically and synthesize information from various sources. 5. Strong analytical, problem-solving and organizational skills. 6. A proven competency to complete tasks on time.
Desired Qualifications
Knowledge of other languages (American Sign Language, Spanish).
