Peer Learning Assistants (tutors) provide academic assistance for students enrolled in one of the target first-year courses and/or upper-division, instructor-managed sessions, and are responsible for preparing for and staffing weekly, small group, in-person or online tutoring sessions. Peer Learning Assistants (PLAs) help maintain attendance records, facilitate study skills consultations, and must attend the following training sessions at the beginning of the semester.
- New PLA Training: 10:00am-12:00pm, Friday, January 12th, 2024
- Subject Specific Training: first week of Fall classes, time to be determined by subject and staff availability
- All PLA Training Conference: 8:00am-1:00pm, Saturday, January 20th, 2024
PLAs communicate with course instructors regarding course materials and promotion of sessions and communicate progress with Student Learning Center Director and the SLC Lead team.
PLAs should expect a minimum average time commitment of 6 hours per week with opportunities for additional hours.

Required Education: Must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate student at the University of Oklahoma. Hiring contingent upon verification of current student status.
- Must attach Spring 2024 ONE class schedule
- Must have completed a minimum of 12 undergraduate hours as an OU Norman Campus student
- Must have a minimum 3.0 Cumulative GPA, have earned at least a "B" in the course(s) that will be tutored, and have taken the course at University of Oklahoma. AP credit and/or professor recommendations can substitute for having taken the course, or in the case of languages being a native speaker would qualify in lieu of having taken the course.
Skills:
- Effective Communication Skills
- Basic Computer Skills
Department Preferences:
- Minimum 3.5 Cumulative GPA or higher
- Earned an "A" in the courses of interest
- Awarded Work Study
