2024 STUDENT NURSE EXTERN
SUMMER OPPORTUNITIES
University of Missouri Health Care is offering 12 week student nurse extern opportunities for nursing students within one year of graduation from an accredited nursing school looking to gain valuable professional experience! Upon successful completion of the externship nursing students have an opportunity to continue in an advanced nurse tech role and be given special consideration for Graduate Nurse positions!
Compensation: $19.09/hour plus $2/hour shift differentials for nights/weekends/evenings
Goals
- Provide an opportunity for student nurses to increase nursing skills and knowledge through clinical practice with a professional nurse preceptor.
- Provide student nurses with a role model for the practice of professional nursing.
- Provide clinical experience to assist with the transition from student nurse to professional nurse.
Dates/Deadlines
- Externship start date – May 20, 2024 (mandatory orientation runs from May 20-May 22)
- 12 weeks (10 weeks paid, 1-2 weeks unpaid vacation)
- Upon screening of application, you will receive an email to self schedule a preliminary phone interview, and then complete zoom interviews with departments

- 2 Current Nursing Instructors
- 2 Nursing student peers
- 1 Employer (current or past)
- Units of Interest ranked (mandatory)
Units of interest need to be ranked as part of the application (you will do this in the questions section of the application.) Current available units are as follows:
-Integrated Medicine
-Family Medicine
-Neurosciences
-Orthopaedics (MOI Inpatient)
-Missouri Psychiatric Center Adult
Qualifications
Requirements:
Applicants must be within one year of graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing.
· Minimum grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale. Official transcript will be required if offered and accepting.
· Completion of application
· References: when prompted, instructor and peer reference information entered prior to application deadline
· Complete a phone interview with HR. Attend virtual interviews
· AHA BLS for healthcare providers is required . If hired, must supply card during new hire paperwork prior to start date.
