Student Maintenance Assistant (Summer)

FUNCTION: 
Assist full time staff with make-ready turnover of resident spaces. Will perform a variety of duties involving general facilities maintenance. Work hours are between 7:30 A.M. - 4:00 P.M., M-F, with the ability to work some weekends depending on workload of the Housing Maintenance shop. Total hours per week cannot exceed 38 hours. Shift schedule may be coordinated with school schedule but must be approved by the Housing Maintenance Managers. 

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

• Performs basic maintenance duties that may include inspecting residential spaces, painting, changing air filters, creating and hanging signage, replacing light bulbs, locking/unlocking resident spaces, staging materials/work carts for projects and other duties as assigned.
• May assist Shop Supervisor with logging, pricing and stocking materials in the Housing Maintenance shop.
• Cleans the work area.
• Completes required forms and logs.
• May perform light tasks of a craft trade and may use small hand tools and power equipment.
• Performs related duties as assigned.

Required Education: Must be currently enrolled in a combination of two terms as a student at the University of Oklahoma. Hiring contingent upon verification of current student status.

• Must attach Spring, Summer, or Fall 2024 ONE class schedule.

Skills:

• Basic math skills
• Basic computer skills
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
• Ability to accurately read and understand written materials and instructions
• Ability to update written records, including computerized records

Advertised Physical Requirements:

• Working in very tight areas/cramped enclosures
• Painting and exposure to chemicals associated with paint
• Climbing ladders, working at heights
• Maintenance of lavatories and restrooms
• Lifting and carrying loads up to 50 pounds
• Prolonged standing and walking
• Working with insulation such as fiberglass
• Excessive stooping and bending
• Exposure to odors
• Exposure to disagreeable tasks or conditions
• Exposure to hazardous chemicals
• Climbing stairs, including carrying while climbing
