Student Life Disability Services at The Ohio State University is a department within Student Lifes Belonging and Inclusion team. Our role is to contribute to the advancement of a culture of equity, inclusion, and pride for students with disabilities through provision of academic and cocurricular accommodations and advocacy. The Access Specialist works with students, staff, and faculty to improve campus accessibility and engagement in their university experience. This position reviews disability documentation and conducts student interviews to determine eligibility for services; collaborates with students, faculty, and staff to implement accommodations; counsels and advises students regarding academic goals, accommodations, and academic progress; maintains confidential information and records; documents communication with and regarding students, courses and instructors in departmental database; refers students to campus and community resources; serves as an advocate for accessibility and inclusion; collaborates with students, faculty and staff to implement accommodations to ensure compliance with applicable laws and policies; contributes to policy and office literature development; supervises interns and/or student employees; conducts outreach workshops, training, and presentations; and serves on University committees and task forces and acts as a liaison for other departments. Final candidate must successfully complete a background check.

Office of Student Life Mission Statement:

Target hiring salary is $49,800 to $66,400.

Qualifications:

Required: Bachelors degree in education, human services, social work or related field; 4 years of relevant work experience; excellent administrative skills and ability to manage multiple complex situations; strong written and verbal communication skills; understanding of academic accommodations; ability to build and maintain professional relationships and work collaboratively on a team; strong ability to assess a situation and problem-solve appropriately. Working knowledge of common computer applications (e.g. word processing, PowerPoint, Excel). Successful completion of a background check.

Desired: Masters degree in higher education/student affairs, human services, social work, rehabilitation counseling, or related field; 4 to 8 years of relevant experience; experience working with individuals with disabilities; experience working with students in higher education; knowledge of disabilities and relevant laws; knowledge of campus and community resources, knowledge of inclusive educational design; demonstrated presentation skills.
