The National Weather Center (NWC) Library supports the research, education, outreach, and operations of all NWC entities, and offers research services to anyone in the general public with an interest in weather or geography. The NWC Library is also home to unique government documents, historical weather maps, and rare field sketchbooks of tornadoes from the 1800s. The library facilitates access to both educational and federal resources.

The Student Library Assistants' main duty is to maintain the service desk, answer patron questions, find materials, and direct more complicated requests to the Senior Administrative Support Specialist or the NWC Librarian. Employees in this position will receive training on library policies and procedures, develop research and information literacy skills, and gain experience with databases and patron services.

Job Duties: 

  • Interacting with the public when working the circulation desk
  • Answering questions relating to various resources
  • Receiving and sorting library materials including during check-out and check-in
  • Performing other duties as assigned

**We are seeking candidates who can work on weekdays between 12:30 and 3:30 pm, preference will be given to candidates with this availability.

Required Education: Must be enrolled in the Spring Term as a student in good standing at the University of Oklahoma. Hiring contingent upon verification of current student status.

Skills:



  •  Basic Math and Computer Experience

Advertised Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to shelve books near the floor and above 5 feet
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to move loaded book carts 

Department Preferences:

  • Experience working with computers
  • Experience working with the public
  • Knowledge of Meteorology, Geography or related field
  • Undergraduate student status
