Position Summary
The Student Library Assistant will provide basic circulation assistance and troubleshoot minor photocopier, printer, and scanner problems.
This is a student position open to current UIW students who may be hired through the Federal Work-Study Program or student employment.
Essential Functions
  • Specific tasks include using the library’s software to provide circulation assistance to patrons.
  • Duties also include shelving, shifting books, shelf reading, aiding in the de-accessioning of library materials, assisting with opening and/or closing procedures for the library, and referring individuals to the appropriate librarian when needed.
  • Other tasks include assisting patrons with basic computer software and hardware questions, maintaining printers, and troubleshooting minor equipment problems.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications


Knowledge Skills and Abilities
  • Must have excellent customer service skills. The ability to act professionally in a public service environment.
  • Ability to be punctual and attentive to clients.
  • Must possess good oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in mainstream computer software and the ability to manage basic computer hardware issues.
  • The ability to learn quickly, work independently and problem-solve.
  • Must have the ability to follow directions and enforce Library policy.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
  • Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.

Required Education
Currently enrolled full-time UIW student.
Must have an overall GPA of 2.5 or greater.
Required Work Experience
  • Must have experience working with the public, working with computers, photocopiers, printers and be proficient in the use of productivity software.
  • Must have a record of excellent attendance with a current or previous employer.

Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of Library operations/services, audiovisual equipment, and computer software.
Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations
Work Hours
Day, Evening, and weekend hours are available during the Fall and Spring semesters (not including holidays and intersession).
Physical Demands
  • Ability to push book trucks weighing in excess of 100 lbs.
  • Ability to bend and reach shelves higher than 6 feet and must be able to lift at least 20 lbs.
