Job Description

Student employees will work on-site at Tinker Air Force Base (TAFB) in a managed prairie preserve assisting with Texas horned lizard capture, measurement, and tracking (by VHF transmitter, harmonic radar, and cellular technology), collecting genetic and disease samples from captured lizards, and also communicating closely with both TAFB personnel and other researchers. Desired timeframe is March–October, with hours estimated as 10–20/week (spread over 2–4 days), depending on time of year and lizard activity levels. Transportation to/from your home to TAFB is not provided. 

  • Collecting genetic and disease samples
  • Capture, measure and track samples
  • Work closely with TAFB and other researchers
  • Assist with Texas horned lizard Capture

**Must commit to a minimum of March–August (through October is preferred)

Job Requirements

Required Education: Must be currently enrolled in the Spring term as a student at the University of Oklahoma. Hiring is contingent upon verification of current student status.

  • Must attach Spring 2024 ONE class schedule

Skills:


  • Knowledge of biology
  • Able to lift heavy items and walk long distances
  • Background in biology, zoology, ecology, or similar  
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel and Teams
  • Ability to problem solve and work independently 

Certifications:

  • Must have valid driver’s license and reliable transportation 

Advertised Physical and Environmental Requirements:

  • Frequent standing, moving, walking, reaching, and stooping.  
  • May be exposed to biohazardous materials, sharp objects, or chemicals.

Departmental Preferences:

  • Experience catching and identifying reptiles and amphibians 
  • Experience in animal tracking (by various methods) 

Supervision: No Supervisory Duties
