The Center for Student Success (CSS) seeks a creative, detail-oriented, and team-oriented Student Enrichment  Program Coordinator to support the programming offered through the FLI Network. The network is a home base for our growing community of first-generation and/or limited-income (FLI) undergraduate students, along with FLI staff, FLI faculty, FLI alumni, and FLI friends. It is expanding with the following aims: to provide a coordinated core of social and educational programming, including signature events that honor and celebrate the FLI community; to shape and broadcast out affirmative messaging about the diversity and strengths within the FLI community; and to supply an anchor for engagement efforts.


Working in tight partnership with the programming team in the FLI Network, this role coordinates and executes social, educational, and community-building events offered through the FLI Network. The person in this role will be a visible presence within the CSS and must possess an interest in engaging students, experience in program implementation, and an appreciation for the student-centered mission of the Center for Student Success.


The position reports to the Associate Director for Programming in the FLI Network. Evenings and some weekends are a basic expectation, and the work schedule will be developed around program demands.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities


Programming & event planning (50%)

  • Support the planning & implementation of FLI Network signature programming.
  • Support the planning & implementation of FLI Network signature events (welcome reception, National First-Generation Day, Halfway There, and a graduation celebration).
  • Support the FLI Network programming team in administering the Book Loan Program.
  • Establish connections with campus partners and offices responsible for providing event support services.
  • Work with undergraduate interns or other student staff to coordinate and advertise events.


Hop-In Program (25%)

  • Support the Associate Director of Programming/ Director of Hop-In in preparing for and implementing the 5-week summer program.
  • Coordinate logistical arrangements (lodging, transportation, room reservations, menus, etc.) for events and trips with the Hop-In cohort.
  • Provide almost daily on-site support for events and activities during the summer program.


Administrative (25%)

  • Organize & maintain event summary reports.
  • Develop projections for event budgets; keep detailed records of spending for budget reconciliations.
  • Use social media and other appropriate applications to create and build community among FLI students.
  • Update general content and information on the website as requested or in coordination with programs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively and efficiently perform duties and responsibilities with attention to detail and support for organizational policies, as well as the ability to anticipate demands/pressures of assignments and adjust accordingly.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize projects for multiple programs, including strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills and the ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently, and as part of a team.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and project management skills.
  • Professional maturity that fosters a positive work environment and the ability to use appropriate judgment when dealing with sensitive issues.
  • Must be able to flex working hours as required for some evening/weekend events and programming.
  • Demonstrated initiative, independent judgment, and proficiency with basic software applications including Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and social media platforms.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma required. 
  • Five years progressively responsible related experience (with three years of experience in event planning and/or coordination).
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Two years of professional experience working with first-generation, limited income, and underrepresented student populations at a highly selective college or university is preferred.
