Working Title: Student Engagement Coordinator.  Under supervision of the grant manager and to fulfill the mission of a Student Support Services TRIO grant, the Coordinator will use strategic and sensitive methods to recruit/reengage students reluctant to use grant services and provide supplemental academic advising for first generation college students, students with high financial need and students with disabilities. The Coordinator will maintain confidentiality of privileged and personal student information and demonstrate sensitivity, understanding and respect of diverse populations within student populations and within the workplace. The Coordinator will collaborate with campus colleagues to connect students to grant services and triage individual students to determine immediate service needs. The Coordinator will assist in researching and curating best practices/scholarship for grant services, initiatives and evaluation. Under supervision of the grant manager, the Coordinator will collaborate with the grant team to coordinate the grant’s promotions, including utilizing research, judgment and discretion to create and plan effective communications and creative marketing campaigns appropriate for specific audiences and that effectively engage them. The Coordinator will coordinate promotional projects with grant services; develop and manage the annual promotions schedule; write copy and develop creative marketing schemes; use OSU systems/templates/media; set up and provide assistance for events and programming; and manage promotions through branding approval, design, printing and posting processes. Under the guidance of the grant data coordinator, the Coordinator will complete student data projects with careful accuracy, including data collection and verification, data analysis, data inputting and retrieval; create reports using grant database, use MS Excel and OSU systems; assist in tracking/indexing/processing student data; and assist with data retention/destruction procedures. The Coordinator will handle purchasing, basic clerical support, participate in team planning/evaluation, maintain an understanding of the work of colleagues to effectively provide backup and/or support for coworkers and other responsibilities as assigned.

30% Student Engagement and Supplemental Advising: Under supervision of the grant manager, utilize strategic and sensitive methods to individually recruit/reengage students reluctant to use grant services. Maintains confidentiality of privileged and personal information and demonstrates sensitivity, understanding and respect of diverse populations within student populations and within the workplace. Collaborate with campus colleagues to connect students to grant services and personnel; foster an understanding of the needs of TRIO populations (first generation students with high income need and students with disabilities) on campus. Triage individual students to determine immediate service needs. Provide basic academic advising to students. Assist students with transactional academic support services. Assist grant manager in researching and curating best practices/scholarship for grant services, initiatives and evaluation.

30% Coordinate Promotions: under supervision of grant manager and in collaboration with grant team members, utilize research, judgment and discretion to create and plan effective communications and marketing campaigns that are appropriate for the audience(s) and effectively engage them, particularly designed to engage students with grant services and personnel. Coordinate promotional projects with grant services and outreach initiatives; develop and manage annual plan/schedule for team promotions. Write copy and develop creative schemes for messaging, email signatures, student/family newsletters, electronic/direct mail; use OSU systems/templates/media to create promotions. Manage materials through branding approval, purchasing, printing and postage processes. Set up for grant events/programming; provide assistance during events and programming.

30% Administrative and Data Support: Under supervision of grant manager, handle purchasing and provide basic clerical support for team. Maintain an understanding of the work of colleagues to effectively provide backup and/or support for co-workers during times when the team is experiencing an increased volume of work. Under guidance of the program coordinator, complete student data projects with careful accuracy, including data collection and verification, inputting/sorting/labeling/analyzing data; create reports using grant database, MS Excel and OSU systems. Assist in tracking/indexing/processing student data and assisting with data retention/destruction procedures.

10% Miscellaneous: Participate in grant team planning, services and evaluation. Collaborate with grant staff and other campus community partners on behalf of project students and grant goals. Participate in professional development and campus community activities/events. Other duties as assigned.

High school diploma or GED required. Bachelor's degree desired.

Required Experience:

Minimum of one year of experience in higher education required.  

• Ability to maintain highest level of confidentiality. Demonstrated capacity to build and sustain positive relationships with diverse populations of students who are first-generation, have high financial need, and/or students with disabilities.
• Ability to effectively communicate verbally and by written means at a high level.  
• Ability to effectively collaborate with students, faculty, staff, administrators, parents and others, including the ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
• Ability to work in a positive team-oriented manner and to cheerfully handle customer service in a fast-paced office. Demonstrated experience successfully building, fostering, and maintaining educational and institutional relationships.
• Ability to effectively use various media/systems/applications. Ability to effectively interpret a variety of information presented in oral or written formats.
• Ability to make ethical decisions in doing what is best for both students and the grant/institution/university. Ability to effectively communicate with and influence students using understanding and empathy. Ability to diffuse interpersonal tension and assist with problem resolution.
• Demonstrated experience using MS Office, especially Excel and Word. Ability to use (or quickly learn) purchasing, student data and other relevant systems and tools.
• Ability to multi-task yet maintain close attention to detail and timeliness or work production. Ability to be self-motivated and willing to finish unexpected work and meet deadlines. Ability to perform work in a highly organized manner.

Desired Experience:

Three years of experience working with disadvantaged adults and/or youth preferred.

• Experience providing support services to first generation, students with high financial need and students with disabilities in a college setting.
• Experience providing academic advising, academic coaching, counseling or social work services to young adults. Ability to deliver strengths-based student advising and engagement.

The continuation of this position is contingent on future grant funding.
