Posting Summary
The Prism Center is seeking a Student Empowerment Coordinator (Student Services Professional I). The Student Empowerment Coordinator focuses on student leadership development and empowering LGBTQIA+ student voices; promoting conditions at UVM where students with diverse queer and trans identities can thrive.
This position provides leadership and growth opportunities for LGBTQIA+ students around issues of gender and sexuality, and the intersections of these identities with other aspects of identity, paying particular attention to underrepresented or marginalized voices within UVM’s queer & trans communities. This includes supervising affinity space programs, student group and club advising, designing leadership development opportunities, and creation of advocacy and affirmation resources. Working collaboratively with students and campus partners, this position will create innovative programs, events and multimedia resources to create a more supportive and affirming campus.
The Student Empowerment Coordinator will also participate in the recruitment and shared supervision of student employees, volunteers, and interns; assists as needed with educational programming; and participate in any relevant campus and community efforts to represent the Prism Center and UVM. This position reports to the Director of the Prism Center.
Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
Bachelor’s degree in a related field and one to three years of experience required. Demonstrated knowledge and experience working to foster diversity, social justice, and equity for gender and sexual minorities required. Experience with program development, community building, and in social media communication and digital organizing across social media platforms is essential. Effective organizational, written and verbal communication, and interpersonal skills are required. Able to work occasional evenings and weekends.
Desirable Qualifications
Experience working in youth advocacy or with LGBTQ+ college students and/or young adults. Experience as a student leader or supporting youth leadership development. Familiarity with the basic principles of budgeting, program assessment & evaluation. Supervisory experience.

Payband Max (Represents full-time (12 months, 1.0 FTE) equivalent salary. Must be prorated for jobs less than 12 months or 1.0FTE (Salary/12 x # of months x FTE)) 68200.00
Payband Min (Represents full-time (12 months, 1.0 FTE) equivalent salary. Must be prorated for jobs less than 12 months or 1.0FTE (Salary/12 x # of months x FTE)) 35900.00
Staff Hiring Band Hiring salary budgeted at low end to mid pay band
Union Position Yes, UVMSU ($20 minimum hourly rate)
