The Department of Religious Studies seeks a student assistant who will focus on undergraduate student outreach. The qualified candidate will create, organize, and promote student events hosted by the department. Creativity and active student engagement are essential to the position. The candidate will also serve as a student departmental representative at university wide events such as the OU Majors and Minors Fair.  

The Student Outreach Assistant Responsibilities:


  • Be a spokesperson for the Department of Religious Studies, including at certain university events such as the Majors and Minors Fair.

  • Consult with the chair of the department, and the administrative and financial coordinator as needed, on ideas for student outreach and how to promote the department to the wider university community.
  • Organize student events for the department including reserving of event space, creation of promotional materials, design of social media posts, and other administrative duties that may apply.

  • Develop student community among Religious Studies majors and minors and serve as a representative to potential RELS students.

  • Serve as a resource to RELS students by creating an inclusive environment and assisting with any questions they may have about the department.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

The Student Outreach Assistant will be subject to background checks and Student Misconduct check per the Minors on Campus Policy. Assistant will not be hired until complete.


  • Employment is for Spring only (March 1 – May 15, 2024)

  • Department will work with student on a work schedule based on their course schedule.

  • Familiarity with Religious Studies is required.

Required Education: Must be currently enrolled in the current Spring Term as a student at the University of Oklahoma. Hiring contingent upon verification of current student status. This position is only open to undergraduates. 


  • Must attach Spring 2024 class schedule.

 Skills:



  •  Applicants need to be highly motivated, organized, timely, welcoming, and familiar with the Department of Religious Studies.
  • Applicants should be in good academic standing with the University of Oklahoma.
  • Each applicant will be subject to background checks and Student Misconduct check per the Minors on Campus Policy. Assistant will not be hired until completed.

Advertised Physical Requirements:

  •  Must be able to crouch, pull, push, reach, stand, and engage in repetitive motions.
  •  Must be able to lift/carry a minimum of 30 lbs.
