| Job Summary/Basic Function | The Hooks Observatory Student Director will offer assistance to any student, staff, faculty or community member who visits the observatory wanting to view star and planets. |
| Specific Responsibilities | Public Outreach: Lead night sky viewings, run special shows, and answer questions for visitors, running telescopes, guiding visitors, updating websites, and making social media posts. |

Job Duties
| Essential Duties and Responsibilities | The student director is responsible for providing nightly astronomical viewing sessions on Tuesday and Friday evenings after sunset. The student director must be familiar with constellations and astronomic objects visible during the fall, winter and spring seasons. The student director is also responsible for traveling to off campus sites to conduct viewing events at area high schools and other venues and for hosting educational viewing events on campus for visiting middle school students and youth programs. The student director must be familiar with the use of reflecting telescopes, must be comfortable talking in front of groups, and must be able to put together multimedia presentations. Engineering abilities to conduct telescope repairs is preferred.. |
