A part of the Texas A&M University Health Science Center, Texas A&M School of Dentistry  in Dallas was founded in 1905 and is a nationally recognized center for oral health sciences education, research, specialized patient care and continuing dental education. The School of Dentistry is looking for an Student Development Specialist IV to serve in the department of Student Affairs.  We desire an individual who subscribes to and supports our commitment as stated above. The successful applicant will bring an expert level of experience to the position and understand the demands of supporting executives in a fast-paced environment. What you need to know  


Proposed Minimum Salary:  Commensurate based on selected hire's qualifications.


Work Schedule/Location: This is an on-site role with a typical schedule of Monday – Friday 8am to 5pm.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Master's degree in student affairs, counseling, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Five years of experience in student affairs or related specialty area.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

  • Oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in higher education or professional school setting within student affairs or related specialty area.

  • Event management and outreach experience.

  • Experience conducting needs assessments and using results to guide programming and activities.

  • Experience advising student groups and evaluating student programs and activities.

  • Demonstrated professional maturity, leadership, and decision-making abilities.

  • CPR certified

Essential Duties/Tasks:

Programs, events, documents

  • Plans, organizes, implements, and evaluates major Student Affairs programs and events, including orientation, white coat ceremony, awards ceremony and commencement.

  • Secures venues and venders and managing contract negotiations for large events.

  • Manages the budget and expenditures for major programs and events.

  • Advises students on student-sponsored activities, such as gala, dental olympics, etc.

  • Develops surveys to assist in improving school-wide student activities.

  • Annually updates student handbook.

  • Creates matriculation packet for incoming dental students.

Student services and support

  • Supervises student activities.

  • Serves as an advisor to student council.

  • Serves as primary contact for student emergencies.

  • Provides individual and group advising and make referrals to resource providers.

  • Fosters collaborative relationships with and serves as liaison between students and faculty and the administration.

  • Serves as liaison between students and mental health providers.

  • Schedules class meetings with the Deans for DH, DDS and Graduate students.

  • Provides support services to the academic and clinical departments.

  • Serves as liaison to MATCH for residency applications.

  • Coordinates military presentations.

  • Interprets Student Rule 7 on attendance and manage excused absences for DDS students. 

  • Interprets and communicates student-related university and school policies and procedures to meet university and school requirements and guidelines.

  • Leads efforts focusing on leadership development, problem solving, program/activities planning, facilitation, and assessment.

  • Assist with administration of student testing accommodations.

  • Monitors and encourages participation in ADEA senior survey. 

  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory

  • Supervises a Program Coordinator I. Supervisory duties include, but are not limited to hiring, training, facilitating meetings, preparing performance evaluations, as well as consistent developmental feedback and assessing/adjusting position duties.
