What we want
The Student Development Specialist III – Organization Development is responsible for the oversight, advising, and administration of programs and services for recognized student organizations at Texas A&M University as an active member of the Department of Student Activities' Student Organization Leadership & Development (SOLAD) office. This position coordinates development initiatives for the student organization community, which include facilitating consultations, risk management initiatives, and event planning assistance with student leaders and advisors. The SDS III - Organization Development position also supports several key programs and services, such as student leader GPA Appeals, Concessions Administration, and organization community service support. In addition, the position supervises a team of Student Organization Leadership Assistants and serves as an advisor for a department-assigned recognized student organization.

Salary: $46,000/year

Professional Development: May be eligible for up to $3,200.00/year of departmental funding for professional development opportunities and conference attendance.

Position Details: Employee will supervise (1) GA, (1-2) Student Assistants, and (1) Practicum Student. Requires some evening and weekend work. Commitment to university’s and department’s core values. Ability to work nights and periodic weekends as needed including some overnight travel for conferences and retreats. General office conditions with the majority of time spent in contact with students. Attends meetings and conferences concerning students and with student groups at times beyond

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Three years of experience in student affairs work or related specialty area, with two years of experience in Student Affairs

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in student affairs, higher education or related field

  • Two or more years post-graduate experience in higher education, student affairs, or specific area(s) described in this position description

  • Significant student group advising, leadership training, and experience in the specific area(s) described in this position description

Essential Duties/Tasks:

  • Program Administration - Organization Consultation: Serve as the primary point of contact for student organization consultations. Meet with officers and advisors about topics including, but not limited to: conflict management, event planning, leadership development, risk management, university policies, and student organization accountability processes. Manage area consultation efforts and liaise with campus partners who request support.

  • Program Administration – Organization Risk Management: Facilitate effective event planning and risk management support for recognized student organization officers and advisors through technological, virtual, and in-person initiatives. Duties include, but are not limited to, administering organization technological platforms and providing guidance to organization officers, advisors, and campus stakeholders.

  • Advising - Recognized Student Organization: Serve as an advisor for a department-assigned recognized student organization. Advise the organization in leadership development, risk management, financial oversight, event programming and logistics, marketing and communications, and other facilitative practices as required by the group or department. 

  • Program Support - SOLAD: Support general SOLAD area functions, including but not limited to: managing student leader GPA appeal forms, service database management, organization service reporting and assessment, fielding phone calls, walk-ins, and drop-in meetings in support of student organization leadership and advising needs, and other area projects. 

  • Supervision: Co-facilitate the hiring, training, supervision, and oversight of Student Organization Leadership Assistant staff that will provide proactive outreach and consultations to student organization leaders. As able, support the selection and supervision of graduate assistants, practicum students, and interns for the SOLAD area.

  • Concessions Administration: Serve as the campus administrator for the Concessions process for on-campus sales and transactions, and represent the Department of Student Activities on the University Concessions Committee. 

  • Other Duties: Participate on university, division, and/or department committees and task forces. Other duties as assigned.
