The Sam Noble Museum is currently hiring the position of Student Data Assistant Engineer. This position will assist in indexing collection datasets using the Integrated Publishing Toolkit (IPT) for managing, publishing, and sharing digital biodiversity-related information and specimen data via the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF).

Required Education: Must be currently enrolled as a student in a combination of two terms at the University of Oklahoma. Hiring contingent upon verification of current student status.

  • Must attach your Spring, Summer and/or Fall 2024 class schedule.

Skills:

  • Must have familiarity with Microsoft Azure, Microsoft SQL, and T-SQL.
  • Must have familiarity with Windows and/or Mac OS
  • Must have ability to speak, read and write clear, concise English.
  • Must practice effective time management skills.
  • Must be able to work in a collaborative/team environment.
  • Must have a strong work ethic.
  • Must have attention to precise details.
  • Must effectively and proactively problem solve, seeking out and finding appropriate solutions.

Certifications:

  • Driver's License

Advertised Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to hear, see, lift, move, engage in repetitive motion, have dexterity and communicate effectively.

Departmental Preferences:

  • Experience with museum databases and museum informatics.
  • Experience with normalizing and mapping data.
  • Comprehension of biological collection literature.
  • Strong skills in documenting/recording tasks and steps taken.
  • Ability to Audit System.
  • Knowledge of how to concatenate and split data.
  • Know how to validate data.
  • Knowledge using ETL processes to build data pipelines.
  • Knowledge of web development (PHP, JavaScript, or HTML)
  • Experience working in a museum or non-profit environment.
  • Ability to work Summer 2024 and throughout all of Fall 2024 and into Spring 2024.
  • Able to dedicate 15 to 20 hours per week.
