Job Summary
 

The Student Assistant will support Resident Life and Admin Services as the Guest Services Assistant on the Statesboro Campus beginning Summer 2024.

The Guest Services Assistant position is an eleven-week position employed by University Housing held during the summer months beginning on May 20, 2024, and ending on August 13, 2024, or until the last camp/conference checks out. GSAs are the primary logistics coordinators of the guest services assistants for University Housing Guest Services summer camp and conference operations. GSAs are considered essential personnel during University Housing Guest Services crises. GSA must have a clean conduct record by the time of employment.

Student employees cannot work more than 1300 hours in a 12-consecutive month period.


Responsibilities
 
  • Attend and participate in all required staff meetings and training sessions
  • Be knowledgeable of University Housing operating procedures and philosophies, emergency procedures, confrontation methods, and crisis intervention techniques
  • Prep buildings for arriving groups; this includes, but is not limited to, bulletin boards, door decorations, and room inspections
  • Responsible for check-in and check-out of guests, including key issue/collection, guest assistance, room inventories, damage assessment, access card issue/collection, and other assorted responsibilities
  • Maintain accurate records of all activities and transactions which occur during scheduled desk and on-call shifts
  • Assist with showcasing housing spaces as a portion of the SOAR program as tour guides who take groups of prospective students to on-campus residential spaces during SOAR sessions showing display rooms, common areas, and describing various living options of the residence halls
  • Serving in an on-call rotation to serve as a contact to guests for any complaints, concerns, or questions
  • Advise guests of and encourage adherence to residence hall rules and regulations
  • Know, abide by, and serve as a role model for all University Housing policies Appropriately confront guests when necessary to hold them accountable for their behavior
  • Report all violations of university rules, regulations, and policies to a member of the Guest Services Leadership Team, even after the problem has been resolved
  • Utilize appropriate pathways for confrontation of higher-level violations (i.e.: GSU UPD, GSLT, etc.) Immediately communicate and document infractions of University Housing policy to the Guest Services Leadership Team via a completed incident report
  • Report all maintenance problems involving University property, deficiencies, or damages to the Guest Services Managers Effectively use customer service strategies to properly welcome and accommodate University guests on campus
  • Be familiar with campus and community resources and services, helping to build mutually beneficial relationships between University Housing and its partners on and off-campus
  • It's also imperative that GSA's utilize these resources to manage customer service situations
  • Represent and support University Housing in interactions with students, faculty, staff, parents, and guests Assist in emergencies such as fire alarm evacuation, floods, hurricanes, power outages, or other crises
  • In case of a crisis, all staff members are immediately on-call. GSAs are considered essential personnel during University Housing Guest Services crises
  • Serve as a professional ambassador to Georgia Southern through appearance, pleasant demeanor, helpful disposition, and responsive attitude

Shift Specifics

  • Up to 25 hours per week
  • Flexible with schedule of availability
  • May be required to work nights, weekends, and holiday hours

Required Qualifications
 

Educational Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in six or more undergraduate credit hours or three or more graduate credit hours at Georgia Southern University.

Proposed Salary
 

$10.00 per hour
This is a non-exempt position paid on a biweekly basis.
