Job Description

Under administrative direction, the Student and Community Engagement Program Manager performs work of considerable difficulty in coordinating and directing the activities and functions of the Student and Community Engagement Program within the School of Art. The goal of the Engagement Program is to provide students with tools that prepare them for both academic and professional success through the implementation of projects, tasks, and initiatives that target retention, recruitment, community outreach, and student welfare and wellbeing. The Program seeks to support the student culture of the School of Art and to ensure the smooth transition of students between high school, college, and post-graduation.

The Student and Community Engagement Program Manager will work independently to completely large-scale and complex projects, tasks, and initiatives, which include, but are not limited to: implementing and executing summer art camps, skills council, bridge programming, and major engagement events such as Open Door, Homecoming, Fall Welcome, ARTfest, and Brown Bag Workshops; serving as the primary liaison for student-led organizations and developing registration, community, and funding resources; cultivating community outreach programs that involve local and national establishments; connecting students with cultural, professional, academic, and financial support systems; and overseeing undergraduate scholarship processes and communication. To successfully execute these projects, tasks, and initiatives in accordance with School of Art needs, the Student and Community Engagement Program Manager must supervise a team of direct reports to support program goals; work closely with internal and external departments; utilize a range of university systems and technologies; develop promotional strategies for initiatives and programming; manage the operational and financial success of programs by controlling budgets and overseeing logistical, organizational, and procedural details; and complete assessments and evaluations of current and completed work.

Salary Range

$55,000 - $62,000 per year; DOE


Essential Duties

  • Supervises the activities of subordinates.
  • Supervises and facilitates the development of high impact training materials, training content, training delivery modes, or workshops, meetings and conferences with program/project participants; oversees logistics, scheduling and target audience communications.
  • Oversees the evaluation of both the statewide and regional programs'/projects' effectiveness to develop and implement the goals and objectives of the program/project including: improved methods of program/project delivery; evaluation methodology design and implementation including analysis of results and takes or recommends proper action based on outcomes.
  • Develops and monitors daily operations and coordinates program/project activities.
  • Oversees the preparation of proposals for continued funding; acts as the primary liaison with current funding source.
  • Supervises the preparation of budget proposals; establishes expenditure controls and recommends the allocation of resources within the limitations of the budget.
  • Directs the recruitment of local participants within the region utilizing the most appropriate promotional and marketing methods.
  • Establishes and maintains liaison with regional, state, and national organizations involved in the implementation of technology.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field AND five years administrative/coordination experience; OR, Master's degree in field appropriate to area of assignment AND three years administrative/coordination experience; OR Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

  • Experience in developing proposals for external funding of projects.
  • Experience in planning, budgeting, implementing and evaluating projects.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of processes to conduct needs assessments.
  • Experience in designing training materials and presentations to meet needs assessed.
  • Experience in implementing training, session reviews, and follow-up procedures.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of processes for dissemination of results through presentations, reports, and publications.
  • Evidence of effective communication.
  • Experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships and establishing and facilitating work teams.

Working Environment

  • Activities are mostly performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse; frequently required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work.
  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
  • Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions.
  • Calculator, telephone, computer (monitor, keyboard and mouse), printer, fax and copier.
  • This position receives regular review of objectives

  • Alternative work schedules can include four, 10-hour workdays in a workweek; a nine-day, 80-hour schedule over two workweeks for exempt employees only; and staggered start and stop times.
  • Hybrid work is an arrangement where employees spend a minimum of 60% of their regular workweek at their primary ASU work location. Dean or vice president-level approval is required.
