Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
Student Affairs at the Gillings School of Global Public Health provides an array of services and resources to prospective, admitted and current students. We aim to enhance student development by providing a supportive and safe environment in which you can achieve academic, social and professional success.
We coordinate major schoolwide programs such as orientations, a student activities fair, a career and internship fair and professional development workshops. We work to recruit excellent students; coordinate diversity outreach programs to expose high school, undergraduate students and professionals to the field of public health; and offer career services for current students and recent alumni.
Position Summary
The Student Affairs Events Manager is responsible for coordinating commencement, admissions and other student related events, this position will lead each event’s organization, budgeting, marketing and to be responsible for the run of show the day of the event. These duties are handled autonomously, the position will only consult with leadership for unique situations. The Events Manager is the sole individual within the Gillings Student Affairs Office who is responsible for planning, production, and implementation of a variety of school-wide special and signature events. Examples of school special events include Wellbeing Wednesday Event Series, Gillings Student Success Seminar, Graduate and Professional Student Appreciation Week, Gillings Student Organizations and Activities Fair, Gillings Student Leader Orientation, Gillings Student Affairs Annual Summer Retreat, and all staff related special occasions events. Examples of school-wide signature events include Experience Gillings Series – Open House, Admitted Students Day, Orientation, The Career Services conferences/summits/fairs, commencement and all dinners/receptions that are related, and any additional events as defined by the Associate Dean for Student Affairs and/or Dean of Gillings School. In addition to event management, the Events Manager will also assist all school affiliated student organizations with event planning, be a resource for printing services, and review/fund applications for student organized events – which will require collaboration annually with both the Gillings Advancement Office and the Gillings Finance Office.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in business administration or a related discipline; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
* Working knowledge of facilities use planning including cost planning and invoicing procedures.
* Knowledge of and ability to use Events Management Systems (EMS). 
* Physical requirements are typical of those working in a general office or classroom setting, but with extensive requirements to stand or otherwise engage in physical activity in an indoor setting. Typically involves regular sitting, standing, walking, moving, lifting objects up to 25 pounds, exposure to office lighting, regular typing, etc.
* Occasional exposure to outdoor conditions and inclement weather is expected.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Previous Office of Student Affairs/Higher Education experience.

Campus Security Authority Responsibilities
This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
