General Description of the PositionThe primary objective of this position is to collect current and past due student accounts to reduce overall accounts receivable while maintaining the highest level of professionalism and confidentiality to all customers. The Collections Coordinator is an extension of the Office of Student Accounts and may be called upon to assist with other responsibilities within Student Accounts. This position requires effective collection techniques, excellent customer service abilities, excellent communication skills (oral and written), professional sound judgment, and effective time and task management abilities. This position reports directly to the Collections Manager of Student Accounts.
Essential Functions & Required Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesThe Collections Coordinator is responsible for the collection activity, which includes but is not limited to:
1. Contacting students to collect outstanding balances;
2. Making professional decisions when performing account audits and adjustments;
3. Creating, adjusting, and maintaining payment plans;
4. Preparing collection correspondence; overseeing the collection efforts of third-party agencies; and other related tasks to reduce outstanding receivables and
5. provide accurate information and balances for receivables due to the University.
Qualification Standards
1. Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, Business Administration or related field or five years of equivalent combination of education and experience in student financial services, collections, accounts receivables, or sales.
2. Three or more years’ experience in a professional office environment interacting with customers and accounting/account-related responsibilities.
3. Three or more years’ experience in reconciliation and/or account maintenance.
4. Excellent communication (written and verbal), time management, and organizational skills.
5. Three years of experience working with spreadsheets and word processing, preferably Microsoft Excel and Word.
6. Accuracy, efficiency, and attention to detail demonstrated in all phases of work.
7. Ability to work outside of normal business hours as necessary.
