In the Physical Sciences Division the Shipping and Receiving unit interfaces with the Physical Sciences Division (PSD), Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering, and the Biological Sciences Division. Works directly with faculty, staff, and students primarily in the PSD to provide support and services as needed from the dock/shipping area.

Job Summary:

The Stock Clerk IV interfaces heavily with the Physical Sciences Division's (PSD) faculty, staff, and students to provide support and services as needed from the Dock/Shipping area. Maintains and oversees all duties on the dock.

Responsibilities:

  • Receives, coordinates, tracks, and distributes all incoming parcels and packages into the division and the University of Chicago Hospital areas.
  • Moves heavy merchandise, packages, and dewars up to 800 lbs. and handles hazardous chemicals.
  • Responsible for stocking and billing for a small hardware, labs, and office supplies in the stock area for Researchers.
  • Advise customers with stock location, recommend parts for applications.
  • Process accounting and bills via computer.
  • Place order and check-in merchandise.
  • Handles recharge accounts, purchase orders, invoices, data entry, and other clerical office duties as assigned
  • Takes responsibility and professional care for unusual and expensive equipment, and high security areas within and outside of the Division.

  • Public relations, clerical skills and organizational skills.
  • Ability to independently lift, carry, and/or move heavy packages/equipment of up to 150 pounds.
  • Ability to move gas dewars (up to 900 pounds) using a hand cart.


Additional Requirements ​​
 

Education, Experience, or Certifications:

Education:

  • High School diploma or GED required.

Experience:

  • Some previous shipping and receiving experience (experience with UPS Track Pad).
  • Experience/knowledge of gas industry chemical standards and hardware installation procedures preferred.
  • Previous experience with safe-handling or receiving of chemicals and gases.

Pay Range:

  • $18.61-$27.24
