About You:

You have some experience working engaging donors and providing stewardship. You are an excellent communicator and are comfortable with exercising a high degree of judgment and problem-solving to your responsibilities. You adapt easily to changing priorities in a fast- paced environment and enjoy working with diverse groups of people across all levels of the organization.

About the Role:

We are looking for an innovative professional to support external donor engagement activities, assist with special projects, and provide development and stewardship support for the institute’s small portfolio. Reporting to the Associate Director of Strategic Engagement, you will be an integral member of the Strategic Engagement Team.


Position Description

What you'll do:

  • Internal and External Engagement:
    • Under the direction of the Associate Director, manage engagement events, tours and visits for prospective donors.
    • Interview internal audiences, assessing presentations appropriately for audiences
    • Coordinate with Administration, Communications, Researchers, Facilities, and Leadership to bring all parties to a clear agreement and understanding of external productions
    • Contribute to content development for engagement events
    • Manage event budget with oversight from the Associate Director
    • Provide event and donor support for Women’s Health Catalyst, a new
    • initiative at the Wyss
    • Plan, create, execute, and manage symposiums to align internal audiences to external opportunities for discussion of collaboration (2-4 symposiums a year)
    • Assist with special projects as required
  • Instrumentation Program Coordination
    • Coordinate the Instrumentation Program, a new program that supports lab updates and expansion of specific instruments provided by donors; Coordinate return of loaned instruments
    • Maintain an active list of requested collaboration and instrument priorities from Wyss Core and Sponsored Research for potential donor sponsorship.
    • Coordinate technical implementation, from site preparation to document and contact logistics
    • Schedule and collect data from the program to ensure active use of instrument and appropriate project alignment.
  • Development and Stewardship Support
    • Source Wyss materials, papers, and news to create reports for donors. Work with Strategic Communications and Researchers to identify topics, messaging, and targeted audiences to curate stewardship materials that highlight Wyss giving priorities
    • Prepare stewardship reports and coordinate presentations as required
    • Track Wyss projects and interests, and align to grand challenges; update and create materials as needed
    • Create and maintain a stewardship calendar for Strategic Engagement. Prepare reports to donors who have made current-use gifts based on feedback from internal staff.
    • Assist with updating Strategic Engagement Program cases and ensures all stakeholders are notified

Basic Qualifications

What you'll need:

  • A minimum of 3 years of donor stewardship or related experience required. Education may count towards years of experience.

Additional Qualifications and Skills

Desirable Skills: 

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university preferred
  • Ability to work after regular hours and on weekends on occasion is required
  • Strong planning and excellent follow-up management skills required
  • Outstanding written communication and data visualization skills required; ability to analyze, interpret, and summarize complex information into a coherent and accurate presentation
  • Experience working with prospect research, development, and/or front-line fundraisers strongly preferred
  • Interest and curiosity in science, engineering, venture capitalism, and start-up companies a plus
  • Ability to think creatively and exercise sound judgement, self-motivation and self-direction
  • Uses extreme discretion when working with highly confidential information

Work Format Details

This position is based in Boston and some in-person on-campus work will be required, and flexible/remote work is an option. Any remote work must be performed in a state in which Harvard is registered to do business (CA*, CT, GA, IL, MA, MD, ME, NH, NJ, NY, RI, VA, VT, and WA). Individual flexible and remote work options for this role will be discussed during the interview process. *Note: Harvard employees working in California must be exempt. 


The ability to work after regular hours and on weekends on occasion is required for this role.
