Virginia Peninsula Community College is a two-year institution of higher education established as a part of a statewide system of community colleges. It primarily serves the residents of the cities of Hampton, Newport News, Poquoson, and Williamsburg, and the counties of James City and York.
This position is funded through a grant. Continuation of employment is contingent on grant funding.
The search will remain open until the position is filled; however, to be considered for the initial screening, candidates should submit a complete application package by December 1, 2023.
The Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) division provides instruction and programs aligned with the College’s mission: Virginia Peninsula Community College changes lives, empowers students to succeed, and enhances the social and economic vitality of the region through high-quality education and workforce training, excellent service, and innovative partnerships. STEM includes comprehensive transfer and occupational and technical programs of superior quality that prepare students for success.
The individual reports directly to the STEM Dean and must keep the STEM Dean updated with information about Career and Technical Education (CTE) laboratory activities. Responsible for ensuring that laboratory supplies and equipment are ready for use. Support full-time and adjunct faculty with labs for Information Technology (IT) Cybersecurity, Computer-Aided Drafting and Design, and Heating and Air Conditioning at both campuses.

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications
Required:
  • Related experience in maintaining laboratory inventory, supplies, and equipment.
  • Experience with safety rules and regulations that apply to laboratory maintenance and supplies.

Knowledge
  • Basic knowledge of cyber terminology, attacks, vulnerabilities and threats, system hardening, wireless security, and AAA.

Skills
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software
  • Keen attention to detail

Ability
  • Ability to utilize new technologies and software quickly.
  • Ability to problem-solve, organize materials, and maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to follow all safety rules and regulations and to interpret and apply policies, procedures, and guidelines in an educational environment.
  • Develop and maintain cooperative and professional relationships and work constructively within a team.
  • Work cooperatively with a wide variety of individuals.
  • Communicate timely and effectively both orally and written.
  • Work independently or collaborate with a team.
  • Support multiple campuses.
Additional Considerations
  • Current certifications in CCNA, Network+, Security+, or GISF. Also, Linux+, Microsoft certifications or A+.
  • Experience working with faculty, staff, and/or students in a higher education environment.
  • Experience in Networking includes the following: switching and routing for lPv4/lPv6, Cisco IOS command structure, PC command line tools, cabling, network topology design, and OSI model.
