Steam Utilities Mechanic

Job Summary

As the Steam Utilities Mechanic SK1.1 you will serve as trainee to Steam Utilities Mechanics in the Utilities Distribution Department.  You will provide assistance in maintenance and repair of all utility system equipment, train to perform preventive maintenance, learn Utilities Distribution policies, procedures and processes, and cross-train with other Utilities Operation personnel. This position is on 24 hour call - irregular planned and unplanned overtime and flextime required.

 

As the Steam Utilities Mechanic SK2.1 you will perform maintenance of the steam and chilled water distribution system. These tasks include: inspecting equipment providing steam to buildings including condensate pumps, switches, water heating equipment, pressure regulator, valves, traps in the utility tunnels and buildings. These inspections include the detection of steam, compressed air, natural gas and water leaks. Also noting the condition of T-com exhaust fans and lighting system in the tunnels. You will provide maintenance and repair of all utility system equipment. You are able to perform activities in W.O system. You will need to perform pipe fitting, and other required tasks, on all of the utility system components to maintain the systems. This position will cross-train with other Utilities Operation personnel. This position is an on 24 hour call-irregular planned and unplanned overtime. Perform preventative maintenance identified through the Maximo Work Order system. 

 


What We're Looking For:

Education and Experience:

  • High School Degree or GED
  • One (1) year of experience
  • Valid Indiana driver’s license 


As the Seam Utilities Mechanic SK2.2 you will need the above and following:

  • Four (4) years steam fitting, mechanical, training in pipe trades, plumbing or related utilities experience
  • Experience in maintenance and repair of Steam/Chilled Water system 


Skills Needed:

  • One year of mechanical aptitude experience 
  • Must:
    • have basic computer skills/knowledge
    • be able to climb ladders and scaffolds and work from heights up to 100 feet
  • Good verbal and written communication skills 
  • Basic knowledge of hand and power tools 
  • Ability to:
    • work under a variety of conditions such as confined space (tunnel, pits) heights and hot/cold conditions
    • lift and carry 25 to 50 lbs. frequently and up to 60 lbs occasionally

 

As the Steam Utilities Mechanic SK2.2 you will need the above and following:

  • Knowledge of shop mathematics with an ability to read and comprehend technical materials, read prints and schematics 
  • Basic knowledge of hand and power tools and mechanical aptitude 
  • Ability to obtain natural gas master meter certification
