JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Department of Entomology in the College of Agricultural Sciences at Penn State is hiring a Statistician (Research Data Analyst). The purpose of this position is to serve as a Research Data Analyst to the USAID Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Current and Emerging Threats to Crops and PlantVillage, which the Innovation Lab was founded upon. This position is responsible for working directly with the Lab Manager, Director of Operations, Associate Director and Director to ensure greater equity in the lab’s research efforts. Equity is a major focus of USAID. This is a wide-ranging position where we will focus on Minority Serving Institutions in USA (HBCUs), Universities and profit/non profit enterprises in Feed The Future Country.

The ideal candidate would understand current research in the lab and work on engaging a broader community of researchers and working with US based groups including USAID. Research component is measuring our inclusion and growth in inclusion. This position will be responsible to:

  • Conduct advanced data analysis by utilizing advanced statistical methods to analyze research data related to the populations we are serving, emphasizing productivity improvement;

  • Regularly assess and interpret data to identify trends, patterns, and insights;

  • Collaborate with the upper level management and research team to refine data collection methodologies;

  • Develop and implement mechanisms to measure and report on equity within the lab's research projects, with a specific focus on business impact;

  • Generate comprehensive reports detailing inclusion metrics, growth in inclusion, and strategic areas for improvement;

  • Design metrics for organizational engagement with a business-centric approach;

  • Provide recommendations to the leadership team on enhancing diversity and improving team dynamics for future projects with a focus on business efficiency;

  • Cultivate relationships with Minority Serving Institutions, including Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), as well as other universities, and profit/non-profit enterprises;

  • Interface with USAID and other relevant US-based groups to foster collaborative efforts and align research objectives;

  • Assist in the development of collaborative research proposals and projects, emphasizing their alignment with our strategic goals;

  • Provide data-driven insights to support the lab's efforts in addressing emerging threats to crops;

  • Collaborate with the Director to align research goals with broader USAID objectives;

  • Maintain detailed records of research data analysis methodologies and result;

  • Generate regular reports summarizing research findings, inclusion metrics, and areas of success and improvement;

  • Contribute to the preparation of publications and presentations for diverse audiences;

  • Stay up to date with current research trends, especially in areas relevant to the lab's mission; and

  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance analytical skills and knowledge; and share acquired knowledge with the team to foster a culture of continuous improvement, transparency and education. 

This is a limited term position funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of refunding. 

Education and Experience:

Requires a Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

The pay range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$51,000.00 - $74,000.00
