Position Summary:

Support research by applying mathematical and statistical knowledge. Validate statistical research information and prepare specific documentation for publication or presentation. Key areas of responsibility include consultation, data analysis, statistical analysis, presentation/publication assistance, human resources/leadership.

Responsibility:

Consultation: Advise investigators on the statistical aspects of study designs. Prepare statistical sections for studies. Write reports of statistical analyses and prepare written materials for funding agencies and others.

Statistical Analysis:

· Prepare and review data for validity and accuracy and recommend additional tests and modifications, if necessary.

· Create, test, and validate programs that generate data summaries and data listings for reports using statistical packages.

· Create, test, and validate programs that perform statistical and graphical analyses. Determine appropriate analysis techniques.

· Assist investigators in statistical analysis. Determine appropriate analysis techniques.

· Assess the validity of data analytic assumptions for the present data.

· Analyze and report on methods and trends in data analysis techniques and apply them to data sets. Assure data fit models required by the statistical methods.

· Organize and archive statistical analysis programs, data sets and results. Create, organize, document, maintain and archive statistical analysis programs, data sets and results.

Presentation/Publication Assistance:

· Assist in preparation of grant applications.

· Prepare statistical analysis sections for research presentations and publications.

Human Resources/Leadership:

· May provide direction, assignments, feedback, coaching and counseling to assure outcomes are achieved.

· May provide functional and/or administrative supervision of staff.

Characteristic Duties:

· May perform literature search on specified topics, including methods and trends in clinical trials data analysis techniques; may evaluate those methods and trends and apply them in CTSDMC data analysis as appropriate. Assures data fit models required by the statistical methods.

· Assist in the statistical analysis sections of research papers and manuscripts for publication and presentation at conferences and meetings.

· Recommend areas for data analysis and methods of analysis to be employed.

· Write, test, document, and implement computer programs which perform statistical analyses and other computations.

· Assist in writing reports of statistical analyses and to prepare written materials for funding agencies and others (e.g., NIH, FDA).

· Report key findings to team leaders and assist in presenting results of analyses at investigators' meetings and other forums.

· Communicate with investigators at collaborating institutions regarding data analysis issues; determine appropriate analysis techniques for answering the questions of interest; assists with communicating results to investigating physicians verbally and in writing.

· Prepare data presentations for conferences, meetings, or for publications which consist of charts, graphs, tables, other illustrations and facilitate the interpretation of research findings.

· Work closely with other CTSDMC programming and research staff in conducting analyses and archiving results.

· Assist in judging the validity of data obtained and recommend additional tests and/or modifications to the analysis.

· Assist in case report form design for data collection and database design for data storage and retrieval.

· Write programs to generate data summaries and data listings for reports.

· Under guidance, prepare data sets for public use and reporting to appropriate funding agencies following all guidelines.

Required Qualifications:

· Master's degree in biostatistics, statistics, mathematics, or related field. In some cases, an equivalent combination of education and progressively responsible work experience will be considered sufficient to meet the requirements of the role.

· Proficient in SAS programming (minimum of 1 to 2 years of experience) including data step programming to perform data manipulations as needed for statistical analyses and/or data presentations and knowledge of proper SAS procedures for statistical analyses.

· Strong verbal and written communications skills.

· Demonstrated understanding of statistical analysis procedures and interpretation of analysis results.

· Ability to work in a team environment.

· Good organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple deadlines.

· Knowledge of relational database methods to manipulate and merge multiple large datasets to create analytical datasets.

Highly Desired Qualifications:

· Experience and background in clinical trials research through graduate level coursework or project experience.

· Experience writing statistical analysis plans, analysis reports, protocols, or methods sections.

· Development of reports, tables, and listings in a professional setting.

· Use of SAS to navigate relational databases.

· Proficient in the use of macros in statistical software (for example SAS or R).

· Experience with R programming skills including knowledge of data import procedures, data management, and use of analysis packages generally associated with a minimum of 1 year experience

Desired Qualifications:

· Experience with performing sample size and power calculations for planning actual research studies.

· Experience with advanced modeling using actual research data.

· Course work and/or professional experience of missing data techniques.

· Course work and/or professional experience of randomization procedures and sequence generation.
