ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:
The Department of Medical Education (DME) in the Morsani College of Medicine (MCOM) is headed by Dr. Bryan Bognar, Chair & Vice Dean for Educational Affairs. Dr. Bognar is responsible for the oversight of the Undergraduate Medical Education (UME) program and Graduate programs curriculum, all MCOM student services (Student Affairs, Admissions, Student Diversity, the Experiential Learning Center), the School of Physical Therapy, the Athletic Training Education Program, and the Physician Assistant program. The Chair/Vice Dean also works collaboratively with Graduate Medical Education (GME), Continuing Professional Development, and the Deans for the College of Pharmacy, College of Nursing and College of Public Health to advance the education mission across the MCOM and USF Health. DME (including the MCOM student services) currently consists of 10 faculty members and ~ 50 administrators / staff members. The primary clients for DME are the medical students, DPT students, PA students, the doctoral, post-doc / masters students, and the faculty / staff educators for the medical and graduate program curriculum.  The department interacts with faculty, staff, administrators, students, and healthcare providers across USF Health, USF, and other institutions.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Research, Innovation & Scholarly Endeavors (RISE) office acts as a centralized resource to promote and support students and their faculty mentors engaged in research, scholarship, innovation and creative endeavors. Specifically, RISE provides research support services such as research question and study design consultation, protocol preparation, data collection and statistical analysis services, etc. to all medical students, residents and fellows at USF MCOM. RISE provides high yield resources for research success, offering a centralized curriculum for doing scholarly projects to all medical students.  RISE also offers medical students opportunities to showcase scholarly accomplishments and networking opportunities.
This position supports the RISE faculty Director in the day-to-day activities of the facility, including but not limited to study design consultation, data cleaning and analysis, and helping with scientific papers and grants. The statistical data analyst is responsible for proficiently running at least one of the commercially available statistical software such as SPSS, SAS, R, STATA, etc. Responsible for performing a variety of complex data analyses. Accountable for preparing manuscripts and presentation of data at local and national meetings.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The statistical data analyst needs to ave some experience in the methods of conduct of research (observational and non-observational study designs). They are responsible for drafting a research protocol, developing standardized data extraction forms, extracting various forms of data from published literature or institutional databases, especially national/international databases, and analyzing data. The statistical data analyst is responsible for managing all datasets for particular projects. The statistical data analyst also performs a variety of data analyses ( such as ANOVA, Non parametric analyses, Linear regression, Logistic regression, Survival analysis, etc.). The statistical data analyst also drafts applications to secure institutional review board approvals. The statistical data analyst supports the RISE faculty Director in the day-to-day activities of the facility, including but not limited to data cleaning, data management, data analyses, helping with scientific papers, and grant writing.
The statistical data analyst is responsible for proficiently running commercially available statistical software (requiring using one or more statistical packages such as STATA, SPSS, R, and SAS) for performing necessary analyses, including querying large databases, combining large datasets. The statistical data analyst needs to be able to effectively communicate the results of these analyses to the appropriate party.  The statistical data analyst facilitates all data management requirements for specific grant protocols.
The statistical data analyst is responsible for the timely submission of progress reports and final reports for relevant projects. The statistical data analyst prepares manuscripts and delivers data presentations at local and national meetings. The statistical data analyst works with the investigators, clinical research coordinators, and other bio-statisticians regarding all data requirements for research protocols. The statistical data analyst also assists in preparing grant proposals, supporting USF faculty research and collaboration, statistical programming, database consulting, and analyzing and interpreting statistical data under the leadership of the RISE faculty director.
The statistical data analyst helps train new staff and serves as a resource to Research Faculty and staff on designated topics. The statistical data analyst participates as a team member on RISE projects.
Performs other duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
This position requires a Bachelors degree in a field (e.g. biostatics, epidemiology, and mathematics) directly related to the research or data analysis responsibilities and minimum of one year of research experience. Four years of direct experience may substitute for a Bachelor’s degree (SB 1310)
PREFERRED:
Masters degree in one of the same fields (biostatistics, epidemiology, and mathematics) with a minimum of two years of research experience.
