Position Summary
This entry-level position will assist the Washington University Knight Alzheimer Disease Research Center (ADRC) Data Managers in Center related research projects. Perform duties associated with the coordination and management of large, multifaceted longitudinal research studies/projects by assisting with database design and implementation, data collection/management, data quality control and research administration. Meets with the supervisor and other staff members as necessary to review progress.
This position is in the Division of Biostatistics in the Xiong lab. The Division of the Biostatistics is part of the Office of Health Information and Data Science (OHIDS). OHIDS includes the Institute for Informatics, the Division of Biostatistics, and Becker Medical Library. This represents an alignment of critical units across the School of Medicine.

Job Description

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work with project leaders and staff in migrations of applications and databases to new environments; Design and develop necessary applications on tables, reports, and entity relationships with appropriate interfaces across multiple environments, test applications to ensure performance and capacity plans meet expectations, including performing index tuning, query writing, and optimization, and ensure designs make efficient use of network and database resources.
  • Coordinate with Information Security Office on assessing the risk of the database environments and appropriate controls to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the information.
  • Perform management duties as part of Knight ADRC REDCap longitudinal data repository containing clinical, psychological, imaging, neuropathologic and biomarker data.
  • Additional management duties include transferring QC’d Knight ADRC data to the National Alzheimer’s Coordinating Center – using the most current Uniform Data Set forms (NACC UDS).
  • Monitor and evaluate data integrity. Perform quality control on all forms of data (paper, electronic, etc.).
  • Assist with research coordination of projects within the Center and with other institutions and investigators. Assists with research management (administration, scheduling, tracking, recruitment, etc.).
  • Assist in development of data capture forms and screens. Utilize REDCap and other EDC systems as required for generation of such forms and reports.
  • Generate routine reports on basic statistics and figures and tables summarizing the current status of databases.
  • Other duties as assigned (e.g. may assist in manuscript preparation).


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in computer science or information system or informatics or related field with 1­2 years experience in various databases.
  • Working knowledge of software development languages, database and query languages.
  • Working knowledge of office technology including word processing, spreadsheet and electronic communication.
  • Working knowledge and/or experience with REDCap and SAS macro programming, and also web programming to establish interfaces between REDCap and SAS.
  • Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated organization skills.


Required Qualifications

  • Equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (such as, Math, Statistics, Computer Science or Epidemiology).
  • Experience and proficiency with data analysis and data management utilizing statistical packages utilized by department/s.

Salary Range
$50,500.00 - $86,200.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
