Summary of Duties:

Under general supervision, the Stationary Engineer 1 wil perform a variety of duties in support of Facilities Services Steam Plants. Participate in the operation, maintenance, and repair of all equipment and systems to include: high pressure boilers, electrical generators, water treatment equipment, condensate distribution equipment, pumps, air compressors, steam line operating components, and computer controlled operations of plant systems.

Required Qualifications:

  • Two years of experience in the operation, maintenance and/or repair of stationary or marine high-pressure boilers and heating systems OR certificate of completion of an Advanced Stationary Engineer course from an accredited vocational/technical school or community college AND one year of experience in the operation, maintenance and/or repair of stationary or marine high-pressure boilers and heating systems OR equivalent education/experience.

  • Must be able to work a rotating shift as necessary based on Plant operational needs.

  • Possession of, or ability to obtain within one (1) year, a Boiler Operator, 2nd Class from the City of Spokane, the National Institute of Uniform Licensing Engineers or other departmental approved agency.

  • Must have, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid driver’s license.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience within the last 5 years as a high pressure steam boiler operator in a steam plant utilizing a computer operated, distributed control system.

  • Recent experience operating 1MW or larger gas or diesel-fired electrical generators.

  • Water treatment certification, man-lift training and certification, and fork-lift training and certification.
