Anchored at the University of Oklahoma, Startup OU is an entrepreneurship hub that fosters and champions the next generation of entrepreneurs and emerging talent. Our organization serves as an entry point into the University of Oklahoma, state, and regional startup ecosystems; a connection point for startup founders and university resources and talent; and a launch point for university-affiliated and community startups into the state and regional economies.
The Startup OU Workforce Development Manager is a key member of the Startup OU team, working closely with the Startup OU Director to plan and execute outreach, training, and mentoring initiatives. The Workforce Development Manager will be responsible for a broad spectrum of tasks and projects supporting programs designed to assist aspiring and early-stage innovators develop and launch new ventures. The Workforce Development Manager will support the management and implementation of Startup OU’s talent development programs and entrepreneurial competitions, including training programs, workshops, internship programs, and small- and large-scale competition events (e.g., innovation challenges, case competitions, etc.).
Primary Roles & Responsibilities:
- Assist with preparation and execution of Startup OU’s programs focused on assessing, training, and developing strategies for venture and workforce development across central Oklahoma
- Coordinate Startup OU’s talent development programs and competition events, including coordinating support in partnership with key organizations across the entrepreneurial ecosystem
- Promote Startup OU talent development programs and competition events and implement processes for application, evaluation, and feedback for applicants
- Support day-to-day operations in support of Startup OU programs and program participants
- Engage with statewide and regional partner networks to market and execute programs
- Coordinate resources to assist emerging ventures launch, including team identification and development, talent recruiting and acquisition, and skills training
- Develop program goals and objectives
- Meet with stakeholders to discuss programs status and goals
- Provide oversight of ongoing projects
- Assess program effectiveness and identify areas of improvement
- Manage program documentation, data collection, and reporting to relevant stakeholders
- Perform various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position
Job Requirements

Required Education: Bachelors degree, AND:
- 48 months of program development, program management or related experience
Equivalency Substitution: Will accept 48 months of related experience in lieu of the Bachelors degree for a total of 96 months of related experience.

- Excellent organizational skills with keen attention to detail
- Proficient in composing or presenting oral and written communication
- Strong networking skills and able to build relationships with other relevant stakeholders
- Confidence in facilitating client consultations and discussions to provide program guidance
- Ability to lead and organization specialized programs, including targeted workshops and internship programs, as well as coordinate small- and large-scale competitions and other similar events
- Ability to work independently with modest supervision
- Ability to multitask and prioritize multiple projects, often with shifting priorities and requiring collaboration across many departments
- Highly receptive to feedback and coaching
- Demonstrate curiosity, creativity, and a drive for excellence
Advertised Physical Requirements:
- Ability to engage in repetitive motions.
- Standard Office Environment. Frequent exposure to pressure caused by deadlines and busy periods. May be required to travel. May require contact with other departments and university officials.
Departmental Preferences:
- MBA or Master’s Degree
- 36-48 months experience working with startup companies, universities, or entrepreneurial support organizations
- Experience with leading entrepreneurial support programs, workforce development programs, internship programs or large-scale competition events
- Startup or entrepreneurial support program experience
