Standardized Patient Manager

Position Summary:

The simulation centers utilize high fidelity human patient simulators, task trainers, medical grade equipment, standardized patients, and additional technologies.  There are over 40 AV and Sim Capture mediated spaces that utilize local as well as cloud based LMS systems. The Standardized Patient Manager is responsible for organizing and supporting training sessions, evaluations, scheduling and payment processes.  This person will also support the Operations Manager in the preparation, maintenance, inventory and operation of all simulation and lab equipment/supplies.  The Standardized Patient Manager will partner with faculty and staff to ensure efficient and effective operations, adhering to building and program policies, best practices, and all safety measures.

 

Essential Functions:

 

The Standardized Patient (SP) Manager will:

·         Recruit, hire, and train new SPs (actors) for participation in simulation activities.

·         Manage all aspects of scenario production.  

·         Evaluate new SPs, conduct interviews, and coordinate auditions and evaluations.

·         Direct training sessions using standardized coaching techniques.

·         Prepare Standardized Patients (SP) for roles based on expectations for various scenarios according to the program objectives.  

·         Develop assessment skills with SPs to simulate a clinical environment.   

·         Provide professional skill development leading to improved educational outcomes.   

·         Implement simulation scenarios.  

·         Offer technical experience in the management of simulation equipment and AV equipment.    

·         Will independently operate AV equip such as video cameras, recorders, and audio.    

·         Assess metrics, including data from post-event surveys, SP and learner feedback, and inter-rater reliability scores in order to implement quality improvement strategies.

 

The Standardized Patient (SP) Manager will be responsible for:   

·         Scheduling the SPs for simulation activities. 

·         Analyze needs and manage resources needed for the program including supplies.   

·         Tracking and calculating payroll hours for standardized patients and federal work students. 

 

Update and maintain policies and procedures with each college/school to ensure:  

·         Best practice is being implemented consistently. 

·         Participation and quality improvement processes remain a priority. 

·         Research activities that take place in the simulation areas are supported and are consistent with educational goals and objectives. 

 

Continuing Education and Community Partnerships

·         Collaborates with education leaders to support innovative strategies.

·         Promotes the external positioning of the Health Science Center

·         Promotes and maintains community relationships through program development and community partnerships

 

Duties as Assigned

 

Education & Experience:

 

Required:

·         Bachelor’s degree (Health Education degree or experience preferred)  

·         Three + years of experience in project management/team collaboration 

 

Preferred: 

·         Experience in healthcare simulation 

·         Demonstrated knowledge of the SimCapture evaluation system 

·         Post graduate work or a master’s degree in a related field 

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

·         Healthcare simulation experience (preferred)

·         Working knowledge related to programming and operation of healthcare simulation equipment (simulators, task trainers, AV equipment) from a variety of vendors (CAE, Laerdal, Gaumard) (preferred)

·         Working knowledge of Standardized Patient methodology and programmatic operations

·         Knowledge of healthcare simulation software and hardware. (preferred)

·         Skills in troubleshooting and repairing simulation equipment.

·         Skills in operating simulation equipment and audio-visual equipment.

·         Proficiency in MS software applications including Word, Excel and PowerPoint, Internet, and database use.

·         Skills in developing and maintaining inventory and maintenance records.

·         Skills in training faculty, staff, standardized patients and students.

·         Ability to communicate information clearly and professionally to others with various backgrounds and level of technical knowledge.

·         Ability to learn new skills and technology quickly and independently.

·         Ability to prioritize competing tasks in an everchanging environment.

·         Strong written and verbal communication skills.

·         Self-motivated and require minimal oversight.

·         Ability to work well under pressure, set priorities and make critical decisions.

·         Ability to empathize and connect with various coworkers and stakeholders to build a positive team environment.

·         Outstanding communication skills 

·         Demonstrated evidence of having exemplary organization and interpersonal skills 

·         Knowledge of innovative technologies including how to operate AV equipment. 

·         Knowledge of medical terminology 

 

 

Licenses/Certifications:

Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS) preferred.
