Job Summary
Responsibilities include collection, manipulation, and analysis of experimental datasets, primary organotypic cultures and functional assays. In addition to independent and collaborative experimental efforts, the Staff Scientist contributes to writing, proofreading, and fact-checking papers and presentations. They also ensure compliance with institutional, state and federal regulatory policies, procedures, directives and mandates.
The Staff Scientist is part of the vibrant research environment at The University of Chicago and is encouraged to attend and participate in seminars and workshops in preparation for a successful academic career.
Responsibilities
Collaborates on new and ongoing research projects with a focus on, but not limited to, understanding how glycogen is regulated in cancer cells, and how glycogen metabolism rewires two major aspects of cancer biology: protein glycosylation and epigenetic regulation.
Evaluates the function of glycogen in cancer cells using state of the art, metabolomics, flux analysis, interfering RNA screening, global histone methylation and 5hmC DNA hydromethylation.
Collection, manipulation, and analysis of experimental datasets.
In addition to independent and collaborative experimental efforts, contributes to writing, proofreading, and fact-checking papers and presentations.
Ensures compliance with institutional, state and federal regulatory policies, procedures, directives and mandates.
Encouraged to attend and participate in seminars and workshops in preparation for a successful academic career.
Serves as a resource for collecting data and performing analysis. Contributes to facilitating and promoting a research project by providing scientific or intellectual information.
Reviews laboratory protocols and training on new techniques. Manages complex data sets for research.
Leads the contributions to scientific writing and publications, including protocols and grants.
Performs other related work as needed.

Education:
PhD, MD, or equivalent doctoral degree in systems biology, molecular biology, cancer biology, biochemistry, chemical or biomedical engineering.
Experience:
Relevant research experience.
Background in cancer and cell biology.
