Bioinformatics Staff Scientist or Postdoctoral position

Position Summary

The Bioinformatics Staff Scientist or Postdoctoral Fellow will work in a team environment in Andrea Bild’s lab studying tumor heterogeneity using whole genome sequencing and single cell sequencing approaches, among others. The project will focus on our funded NIH Cancer Systems Biology Consortium (https://csbconsortium.org/ ) program at City of Hope Comprehensive Cancer Center and provide exciting opportunities to engage with top scientists and cutting edge genomic research.  This translational research position works in a leading team of cancer biologists, mathematicians, clinicians, and bioinformaticians.

For this position, the scientist will lead efforts to analyze high throughput sequencing data from patient tumors for detection of tumor heterogeneity and evolution of resistant traits using single cell RNA-sequencing and WGS (for reference, please read: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34712959/ ; https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/29093439 ). S/he will manage the analysis and interpretation of genomics data from patient cohorts in order to understand why cancer progresses and the traits of resistant tumor subclones the emerge during therapy. The successful candidate will also contribute to the development data workflow processes and pipelines. S/he will also have the opportunity to assist in training investigators and new users to use bioinformatics applications and databases.


Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:

  • PhD degree in bioinformatics or equivalent and experience with NGS sequencing data.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve biologically-relevant problems requiring using genomic data analysis.
  • Ability to analyze data of high complexity by applying sound statistical and commonly accepted bioinformatics methods to -omics data with a collaborative project team.
  • Excellent English written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellence in scripting languages (python, perl) and with R.
